YouTube has announced updates ahead of the U.S. election.

YouTube also said it would remove videos that inspire others to interfere with voting and other democratic processes. For example, videos inviting others to create long queues at polling stations to suppress voting will not be allowed.

The new policies come just before the Democratic National Convention, which begins Monday and continues until the Republicans’ time this month. The conventions mark the final stretch of the U.S. presidential election season, which has been overshadowed by the global coronavirus pandemic. But as the general election kicks off, former Vice President Joe Biden appointed California Sen. Kamala Harris as its vice president, Silicon Valley corporations are eager to avoid the pitfalls they encountered in 2016. That the election was marred through interference from Russia, which took advantage of Google, Facebook and Twitter platforms to check and influence the latest results of the contest.

YouTube will display user forums when searching for candidates.

Earlier this week, several primary-generation companies, along with Google, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and Microsoft, announced a coalition that is running with U.S. government agencies to achieve electoral integrity.

YouTube has also tried to protect its platform with foreign actors. Last week, the company said it had banned nearly 2,600 channels connected to China as a component of research on “coordinated influence operations” on the site. YouTube also got rid of dozens of channels connected to Russia and Iran that had obvious links to influence campaigns.

Google said Thursday that it would give others more information about who the political classified ads are on Google and YouTube. The transparency report on the company’s political classified ads, which Google began publishing two years ago, will include new tactics to sort the expenses of the crusade.
