xCloud iOS testing has ended, no launch date in sight

xCloud iOS testing has ended on iOS, Microsoft has confirmed, with no proper launch date for the platform in sight.

“Our Project xCloud preview TestFlight period has ended on iOS and we are focused on delivering cloud gaming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to Android customers beginning September 15,” a Microsoft representative told The Verge. “It’s our ambition to scale cloud gaming through Xbox Game Pass available on all devices.”

The outlet cites strict limits put in place by Apple that means xCloud in its native format is unable to be added to iOS; already, the app’s test flight was only able to allow access to Halo The Master Chief Collection. Google’s Stadia has the same problems with the Apple ecosystem; a streaming app for that service isn’t available on iOS either.

We’ll let you know if anything changes… not that it really matters in Australia: while xCloud launches in September in 22 regions, we’re not one of them.
