WVU: Field Hall will be open during the fall semester

MORGANTOWN – WVU expects Field Hall, the former building of the School of Business and Economics, to be open for the fall semester in August.

“Construction is progressing temporarily and on schedule, so we are very satisfied,” said Scott Owen, director of construction for WVU Design and Construction. The paintings are approximately 40% complete.

The business school moved into the new Reynolds Hall in late summer 2022 (the official opening in August) and WVU is bidding to redesign the old house.

They work with a budget of $3. 4 million. It was reported that the budget had been cut by $7 million, but Owen said it had not been cut. They said, “Here’s how much cash you have, what can you do with it?They made an offer, but it exceeded the budget they had been given.

“We had to do a re-evaluation to get back within the budget I was given. “

The new range of paints includes an update of all interior finishes: paint, flooring; improve the elevator; audiovisual generation in the classroom; a new chimney alarm formula and other improvements in protecting lives; construction safety – access via external card; wireless accessibility; plumbing repairs; new furniture.

He outlined some of the cost-saving measures taken to prepare the four-story construction for a new lease of life.

They found that they could repurpose some of the existing furniture. “We’ve done a very thorough examination of this factor, and as a result, we’ve stockpiled cash. “

They found that some of the systems they intended to install there did want to be installed. The first lot is in need of renovation right now, as are some classrooms.

The systems that will be transferred belong to Eberly College: social work, sociology, women’s and gender studies, communication studies, and the WVU Advance Center aims to “disrupt institutional inequalities” through institutional transformation.

The building’s name, Field Hall, he said, comes from the fact that it sits on the former Mountaineer Field.
