In introducing the new Arm-based Copilot PCs, Microsoft introduces games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Borderlands with functionality that many would consider acceptable. In addition, a separate database now tracks the compatibility of more than 1000 titles.
Microsoft has claimed that Baldur’s Gate 3 can play around 30 frames per second unlocked at 1080p on the Surface Pro 11, which features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite SoC. Qualcomm had shown in the past that the game achieved similar functionality on a prototype computer with the same processor.
The numbers aren’t very impressive in terms of cost per frame, as you can imagine much higher frame rates on many x86 PCs that are less expensive than Snapdragon X Elite laptops. However, 1080p30 is perfectly usable for a built-in graphics chip that runs through an Arm-to-x86 translation layer. In addition, the power of the Snapdragon will likely result in lower temperatures and longer battery life during gameplay.
In addition, Microsoft has officially sanctioned a website, worksonwoa. com, which catalogs the functionality statistics of many PC titles in the Arm edition of Windows. Lately, the database has more than 1,000 games.
