What to watch this weekend: New videos and streaming TV on Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Apple TV and more

What to watch this weekend? This is the big question I ask myself every time I start writing my weekend streaming guide. There’s rarely a shortage, and even less so when you have all the smart stuff in your order book!

For example, I watched the first season of The Terror on AMC+ and it sure is phenomenal. I never got a chance to see it when it came out, and I’m kind of glad I didn’t because now I get to see it for the first time. It’s a spooky old drama with some very creepy and terrifying things happening when two 1840s British ships get lost while seeking to chart their passage through the Arctic.

The cast includes many wonderful British actors from series such as Game of Thrones, Rome, Chernobyl and more, Tobias Menzies, Jared Harris, Paul Ready, Ciarán Hinds and many more. There’s even Sian Brooke from Blue Lights.

Here’s your bonus tip this week. Read on to discover all the new TV screens and videos to stream this weekend.

The 2024 Summer Olympics kicked off Friday in Paris. The games will be broadcast live on Peacock (as well as streaming channels) from July 26 to August 11. The trailer above is from an Olympic abstract comedy series starring Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson.

I’m happy to report that season six of The Dragon Prince is everything I expected and more. In my review, I say that this is the most productive season of the Netflix original family series since season 3. You haven’t started this series yet, I hope you do. There’s nothing like it on television right now: a great epic fantasy series for the whole family, full of intricate characters, mystery and adventure.

The Decameron is an old comedy that’s a lot like The Great or My Lady Jane (they both are; read my review of My Lady Jane here). It follows an organization of Italian nobles and women from Florence as they hide out on a rural estate while the world around them falls ill with the bubonic plague. The series is based on the book of the same call by the Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio. I don’t recognize many of the actors, but I saw Amar Chadha-Patel, who played Boorman in the TV series Willow. He was probably the most productive thing about this series, which was pretty terrible overall. Still, even though he doesn’t like the show, Boorman was a wonderful character and I hope to see more of Chadha-Patel. The Decameron scores a slightly new 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and declines slightly with viewership.

This Japanese crime mystery is directed by Hitoshi One founded on the book by Ko Shinjo. It follows an organization of land scammers (con artists) who go insane and an investigation threatens to derail their operation.

Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Elizabeth Debicki and Alicia Vikander star in this spy film from director Guy Ritchie, who recently premiered his police series The Gentlemen on Netflix. It’s been years since I’ve seen The Man From U. N. C. L. E. or anything with Armie Hammer in it. . I enjoy it thanks to the cast. I saw Debicki recently in the spy miniseries The Night Manager, which I can’t explain enough.

Tom Cruise’s new Mission: Impossible suffered at the box office, largely due to its long runtime and the fact that it was the first of a two-part film duology, although they realized they removed “Part 1” from the title. . and marketing.

However, I thought it was a fun movie and I hope we get the sequel soon. Critics gave the film a score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences trailing behind with a respectable 94%. Basically, if you like fun, over-the-top spy thrillers, you have no excuse not to watch it now that it’s on Prime Video.

I went to this one on opening night and am still reviewing it, but all in all, this movie is a lot of fun and definitely worth stopping by to see in the theater. Filled with hilarious cameos and a pairing in Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), it’s the most productive Marvel movie in a long time, and welcomes the Merc Mouth to the MCU in the most irreverent and rude, absurdly violent way. possible. Good times.

Here are some of the ones that are on the air lately (or that just ended) that I’m watching and/or writing about.

What a phenomenal season of House of the Dragon television it has been so far. I’m sad we only have two episodes left! Epic dragon battles, new dragon riders, romance, intrigue, politics, war – this season has it all. Hell, there are even some cameos from actors from Season 1 who we thought were gone forever. You can read my review of the most recent episode here.

Recently, The Boys and The Acolyte broadcast their latest news. Now, Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent also ended and aired its eighth and final episode last week. Overall, I think this was a really strong show, although I’m still sitting with the finish and seeing how I feel about it. Definitely, anything you deserve to see if you like clever mysteries with courtroom drama.

I’m slowly making my way through season 1 of The Responder, a tense British crime drama on Britbox starring Martin Freeman. Season 2 is now streaming and if you like British crime dramas, be sure to check it out.

One Apple TV screen ends, another begins. I don’t have Sunny yet, but he’s the most sensible on my list thanks to a forged cast, with Rashida Jones at the helm, and a great premise: “Living in Kyoto, Japan, a woman’s life is turned upside down. after her husband and son disappeared in a mysterious plane crash. As a consolation, she receives Sunny, a domestic robot made through her husband’s electronics company.
