CHARLESTON, W. Va. — Now there’s a new position where patients can access their immunization records online from anywhere.
The West Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Public Health has introduced MyIR Mobile, a new formula that allows patients to view their vaccination history and print their own official records.
WV DH Secretary Dr. Sherri Young said that in addition to making it easier for a user to see their own vaccine history and which vaccines they should recently receive, they will also be able to check which ones their children need.
“If you’re a parent or parent of a child and you’re going to school soon and you want to know if your kids want to get vaccinated, or if you’re in a position to go to a doctor’s appointment and I want to know if your child will want vaccines at that appointment and then have the ability to look ahead of the date and make plans,” Young said.
Young said the way the new formula works is that patient knowledge is pulled from the West Virginia State Immunization Information System (WVSISS).
He said knowledge is then accessed from any computer or device through the MyIR portal, which Young said reduces the administrative burden on health care staff, as in the past it was their duty to keep track.
“It was a tall order for healthcare providers to be guilty of this, to look for this. Now they will play a vital role in this process, but it gives patients the opportunity to see when they are done getting vaccinated and where they are in their care journey. physics,” he said.
Young said that after the first case of measles appeared in the state in 15 years in April, he said the new portal would also be an efficient and effective way to track those rapid vaccinations and that it had left many adults wondering when. even if they had already won a measles vaccine.
He said they recently counted the time and money spent treating a single measles case in the state, after a total of 139 people who were in contact with the infected patient had to be tested. Young said the MyIR portal would cut down on all the time, money and effort required to locate this data in the future.
“Being able to go back and see if those 139 patients were vaccinated, if they were up to date, if they were fully vaccinated, is another opportunity because we have outbreaks and other things to know if you are in those cases. situations,” he said.
Young said patients can get the formula through the MyIR website and by creating and activating an account.
Once a registered account has been verified, users will be able to view and print vaccine records upon request.
He said the portal is very easy to use.
“The vital component is that it has a two-factor authentication procedure so that people’s medical records are protected, however, if you go to the online page to download this and enter your two-factor authentication, it will take you directly to vaccination for yourself or your children,” Young said.
Registrations will be accepted through the portal at all institutions that require evidence of vaccination.
