Or I suppose you can buy a pill with an x86 processor and install the desktop edition of Ubuntu or the Linux distribution.

I don’t know, for me it turns out that the “Linux gadgets” market is a chimera. First of all, $600 or more is a lot of money, and it’s not even guaranteed to send, or send the next few weeks, months, or even years.
If this device had been finalized and shipped in 2016, it would have been a much bigger deal, albeit with tight specs for that time (Exynos 8890, 8GB RAM, 256GB, etc. ). I’d like to see Intel or AMD create an energy-efficient x86 processor with a built-in GPU that can handle entire x86 Linux distributions, and then Lenovo or Dell put it in a 6- to 7-inch demo tablet with all the clattering. Having a VNC is a smart choice, but it’s rarely not a viable solution. There may be lags, performance issues, or connection issues. Even then, security issues can arise. For those main reasons, I understand why there has been a call for a Linux device that runs natively on hardware.
Still, x86 features are viable due to cost, heat, thickness, and battery life, even if they’re less difficult to code. While ARM devices have a lot of issues in terms of technical support, performance, and availability, it’s simply this weird situation with no clear solution. The option is to prepare ready-made advertising devices and pirate them with the software. . . And that sounds a little smarter. But this is still an imperfect solution. That’s why I think the “Linux year” is essentially dead and just a pipe dream.
