UK HealthCare discovered last week that it had misdiagnosed 26 COVID-19 patients, the hospital announced Thursday.
Due to a software failure in one of the verification systems, 26 checks were incorrectly known as positive, the hospital said. Lab scientists were examining the raw knowledge of the Thermo Fisher verification platform since June and were involved in the discrepancies, according to a press release.
The laboratory rechecked the samples in question using a separate verification platform and showed which samples reported as positive were negative in the first place.
THE UK’s executive vice president of fitness affairs, Dr Mark Newman, said in a statement that anyone testing at UK HealthCare deserves to know that “the vast majority of effects have not changed.”

“Since those very shrewd workers discovered this problem, we have taken vital steps to validate the verification consultation and worked diligently to touch all parties – the supplier, the FDA – and, fundamentally, our patients and providers,” Newman said.
The hospital said it notifies all patients that they have obtained results. It also tested all positive samples analyzed on the faulty platform to determine accuracy.
Results with discrepancies between raw knowledge and interpretation of the software were reissued on another platform. Negative effects were not changed.

“The UK clinical laboratory has carried out more than 30,000 COVID-19 controls since March and only a very small percentage of controls have been affected by this software defect,” Newman said. “Anyone who has won the effects of the check and hasn’t been contacted this week about a new check can be sure that their result is correct.”
UK HealthCare said it works with local fitness departments and the Kentucky Department of Public Health to correctly classify all data.
Governor Andy Beshear reported a total of 25,147 COVID-19 cases in the state on Thursday, and 565,490 other people were tested.
