Chromebooks have popular opportunities for Windows and Mac notebooks in recent years due to their simplicity, security and ease of use, among others. The fact that many entry-level models are very reasonable probably doesn’t hurt.
But Google doesn’t necessarily have a monopoly on the concept of creating an operational formula that puts the Internet browser first. Mozilla’s Firefox operating system would probably have been a short-lived experience, but developer Rudra Saraswat plans to create a new Internet-based operational formula that puts Firefox first.
For now, all we know about it is its name: Ubuntu Web.
Saraswat delights in creating Ubuntu-based operating systems. He is the lead author and developer of Ubuntu Unity Remix and Ubuntu Education, as well as the Krob Linux mapping optimized for Raspberry Pi computers.
The concept of creating an option for Firefox-based Chrome OS is not that far-fetched. After all, Google’s operational formula is what you get when you use a Linux kernel, load the Chrome Internet browser, and then create a user interface and more computers and functions from there.
When Chrome OS was first released, it was essentially just an Internet browser with some settings to load for things like recording control and local media playback. At the time, if you were looking to install third-party applications, you were limited to running Chrome Internet programs or extensions.
Over the years, Google has added apps to run Android or Linux.
So, even if we don’t really know what Ubuntu Web will look like, it’s simple to create an operational formula with a Linux kernel, a fundamental Ubuntu registration formula and a Firefox Internet browser. It is not known whether Saraswat plans to block the operational formula in any way to prevent users from installing third-party programs for security reasons, or if they will be in containers in any way.
On the other hand, if you need a locked, pretty secure, and fast-start operating formula that works almost as well on low-end hardware as on high-end computers, you can simply buy a Chromebook (or a delivered laptop. Windows 10 S).
Update: Saraswat clarified that the plan is “to create a minimum Ubuntu-based ISO with applications on the Internet and Firefox, and to supply undeniable equipment to facilitate the creation/package/installation of Internet applications”.
So, it turns out that the plan is to offer an operational formula based on Ubuntu stripped, but fully functional, that puts Firefox in the foreground. Users who need to install local Ubuntu apps or make other adjustments will probably do, but if that’s what you need to do, then it probably wouldn’t be the most productive operational formula for you in the first place.

Mozilla Webian already exists. How will that differ?
It’s an attractive idea, but how blocked will it be? Will it be imaginable to install other graphical interfaces? In fact, I hate Gnome 3 and overlapping activities. The Activities overlay hides the desktop and reminds me of the notorious UAC screen that made Windows Vista so unpopular. I think the XFCE desktop environment (without the activity overlay) used by the xubuntu-desktop package would be a better option. A more classic desktop environment (without the Activities overlay) would probably make Ubuntu Web more popular among Chrome OS and Windows users.
In addition, Firefox OS and Ubuntu Touch had very limited app stores. Ubuntu Web will want some client programs to succeed. How about Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Youtube, Netflix, Skype and some popular games to get you started? In addition, the open source nature of Ubuntu does not come with multimedia playback, so I also install VLC.
All those facilities have Internet sites, even skype. Except that they are possibly popular games, unless you use one of the many streaming game installations. It would make sense to simply use them, if the operational formula is literally meant to be just a bootloader for a browser. It’s probably not designed for phones, which may want a consumer app to minimize bandwidth usage and load times. As for the graphical interface, I probably wouldn’t even have one. They can also do everything from browser windows and Internet pages. All. But searching to use a computer that uses only the browser is pathetic. Even if it is, it’s still pathetic.
The Activities overlay is the explanation of why I stopped Ubuntu and switched to Linux Mint.
Maybe it looks like LibreElec… sufficient operational formula for Firefox.
Canonical continues to make possible options related to the launch of new products. I’m not sure who this operating system will attract. People who know enough about computers to install a Linux distribution, but need very limited functionality?
In the days of Windows Vista and perhaps Windows 7, it was not unusual for other people to install Ubuntu on their grandparents’ computer, however now, in the era of iPads and Chromebooks, those days are over.
Laptop brands won’t like this. Chrome OS is already loose and its implementation is very low. Not to mention that Google manages what the operational formula looks like for the manufacturer.
It has Ubuntu in the name, however, this is an official canonical project.
