Twitter now users to restrict responses to their tweets

Twitter is implementing a feature that will allow users to restrict the number of other people who can respond to their tweets. The feature is now available to Twitter users around the world.

The microblogging site Twitter has in the past tested a feature that allows users to restrict who can respond to their tweets. At that time, the update was only tested on a small number of users worldwide. Less than 3 months later, the feature was considered a success and is now being implemented for everyone.

In a blog post, Twitter’s product management director Suzanne Xie announced that the new chat setup can be used with “everyone” starting Tuesday. The executive said the feature had been helpful to many users, allowing them to interact in “safer” and “more meaningful” conversations with other Twitter users without having to close the person’s point of view.

Xie said the feature helped users “feel more comfortable with tweets and more confident about spam and abuse.” He was able to block out unwanted noises in response threads and avoided “an average of 3 potentially abusive responses while adding a potentially abusive retweet for singles with comments.”

This feature has made Twitter more secure. The increased sense of security that user capability has resulted in more meaningful conversations on the platform, said the Director of Product Management.

Users who take advantage of this feature now have a higher percentage of the longest tweets in their mind. Some who use the new parameters are also encouraged to communicate about sensitive conversations about politics and social issues.

“We’ve noticed that other people use those settings to have conversations that weren’t really imaginable before,” Xie said.

Here’s how the new one works:

Before a user posts a tweet, he or she will be able to reply. There are 3 options: “everyone”, “other people you follow” and “only the other people you mention”.

Tweets with the last two settings will be classified and the reaction button will be dimmed for those who do not have permission to respond. Those who can’t respond will only be able to see tweets, retweet, retweet with comment, percentage and like in tweets. Twitter will now allow users to respond to their tweets. Photo: Twitter
