On Tuesday, Twitter forced a Democratic House Nominee to eliminate a tweet that suggested President Donald Trump’s supporters vote the day after the November election, showed a corporate spokesman to POLITICO.
The company said an August 18 tweet of the crusade by Elizabeth Hernandez, who challenges Republican Rep. Kevin Brady for his seat in the 8th Congressional District of Texas, violated its regulations opposed to voter suppression.
The impact: The action of Twitter opposed to a Democrat follows a series of corporate efforts to suppress misleading posts from Republicans, Trump and his campaign.
What happened: In reaction to a Twitter user who wanted Hernandez to be lucky in his career and said he had “parents in Texas who are supporters of tRump” [sic], the official LizForTX8 account wrote: “Thank you!And remind all of your family members by supporting Trump to vote on Wednesday, November 4 (since they’re Trump supporters, they may fall into the trap.Only di Array ..) »
The tweet included a laughing emoji. The account has more than 26,000 subscribers.
Twitter’s regulations on incorrect voter information prohibit “posting or sharing content that may suppress participation or deceive others about when, where, and how to engage in a civic process.”
The company said Tuesday that it needed Hernandez’s crusade to delete the tweet, which had been online for two weeks until it was reported Tuesday.
Race reality: Hernandez has a strong chance of knocking down Brady, the Republican on the House Media and Arbitration Committee, who has held the position in the United Red Light District since 1997.
A spokesman for Hernandez’s crusade did not respond to a request for comment.
