Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ ambitious comparison (right) between the reopening of schools and the raid that killed Osama bin Laden on Wednesday temporarily led Twitter users to echo his comment, which comes amid an increase in COVID-19 deaths in the state.
At a news convention Wednesday, DeSantis continued to push for schools to resume training on the user and referred to one he had recently had with Martin County Superintendent Laurie Gaylord.
“She saw the reopening of her schools as a project for a Navy SEAL operation,” DeSantis said. “Just as THE SEALs overcame the obstacles of bringing Osama bin Laden to justice, Martin County’s school formula would also find a way to offer parents a meaningful selection of lifelong in-person training or distance learning.
DeSantis’ most recent comments were not easy for the reopening of schools, echoing calls from President Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos for the resumption of school categories in person despite the rise of COVID-19 cases across the country, generating complaints and mockery on Twitter soon after.
