TANZANIA: TOWERCO of Africa Tanzania (TOA Tanzania) has signed a $30 million (US$80 billion/-) financing agreement with British International Investment (BII) to build some two hundred more telecommunications sites across the country to bridge the virtual divide.
The 200 new sites strategically located on the mainland and in Zanzibar will particularly strengthen coverage, especially in rural areas, connecting previously isolated populations and helping up to 600,000 people.
This was stated by the Minister of Information, Communications and Information Technologies, Nape Nnautye, when honoring the event, stating that the government is willing to collaborate with the personal sector to address the demanding situations faced by the sector with the usual goal of virtual accessibility and communication. services.
“I congratulate TOA Tanzania for securing BII’s investment, the investment will play a role in strengthening the virtual economy,” he said.

Founded in February last year, TOA Tanzania focuses on the ownership and leasing of passive telecommunications infrastructure to cellular network operators. The Executive Director of TOA Tanzania, Mr. Innocent Mushi, said that the agreement with BII reinforces its commitment to expand connectivity and close the virtual divide in the country.
“With the invaluable BII, we are well-stocked to fuel our expansion trajectory and supply critical telecommunications facilities to underserved communities. “The design of our new sites prioritizes environmental coverage through meticulous site selection, use of renewable energy sources, and waste disposal practices,” he said.
IIB Director and Chief Debt Officer Richard Palmer said the expansion of virtual infrastructure is key to fostering the country’s sustainable economic development.
“By focusing on rural areas, TOA Tanzania not only promotes inclusion, but also ensures that the benefits of technological advancements reach the most underserved communities,” Palmer said.
The British High Commissioner to Tanzania, David Concar, said on the occasion that he was extremely happy to witness the signing of the agreement, which will help expand telecommunications connectivity and remote populations in the country.
