TikTok warns of suicide video

TikTok warns parents and users of a suicide video that has been embedded in a clip. The video featuring a suicide American came here from a live stream on Facebook and was uploaded to various social media platforms, changed in other unrelated videos.

“We know that suicide clips streamed on Facebook have recently circulated on other platforms, adding TikTok,” TikTok tweeted on Monday.

The short platshape video said their systems automatically stumble and report clips for violating their network guidelines. “We removed the content and banned accounts that attempt to download clips, and rate members of our network who have reported content and warned others to object to viewing, participating in or sharing such videos in any format out of respect for the individual and their enjoy,” TikTok said.

Popular with young people and teens, TikTok suggests new resource videos that users don’t subscribe to on its For You pages.

Kirra Pendergast, executive director of Australian cybersecurity provider Safe on Social, pleaded with parents to keep young people off site for the next few days until all clips have been discovered and removed. “This content is widely shared, so we should minimize the damage as much as possible,” he said on Facebook.

Pendergast said the clip shared in TikTok disguised as a video about kittens.

“Many parents know what their children may be exposed to when children as young as 8 years old use TikTok and can see it thinking they are watching a video of a kitten. It’s scary for parents,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.
