The world’s first 5G smartphone with a secondary camera will be presented on September 1, ushering in an era where your phone might not want a “chin”, a “front” or a notch without a screen and would possibly just be a natural sheet of wise glass.
But it might not be available in the U.S.
Instead, ZTE launches the ZTE Axon 20 5G only in China.
ZTE has a long history of smartphone firsts, but suffers from a percentage of place in the declining market. The company has launched the world’s first pressure-sensitive display, such as the world’s first 3D-eyed smartphone and the world’s first dual-screen folding smartphone. But ZTE’s share of a place in the market has increased from about 4% in 2017 to about 1% in 2019, according to Counterpoint and Caixin.
Clearly, ZTE feels that greater innovation will be in its fight against the market’s percentage leaders such as Huawei and Xiaomi.
There have been many attempts to insert a camera into a smartphone: the chin, the forehead, the notch. There have even been emerging cameras, such as OnePlus 7 Pro, that treat the camera like a pop-up flash on a DSLR camera. A lower screen is revolutionary, but it raises some questions.
According to ZTE, it’s good. However, there is still no confirmation from an independent third party about it.
ZTE achieved a screen-to-body ratio of 92%. But by hitting the screen with the camera, the company can let in some notches.
