Another adorable Ayaneo mini PC is on the way, and while the first style looked like an old Apple 2 computer, this one will pay homage to the NES. However, this new platform has a 4-inch touchscreen on the front and an AMD Ryzen. APU comparable to some gaming laptops, not to mention has significant cooling inside. To put it simply, as long as I’m running Mega Man 2, I’ll probably end up betting the newest Steam games in 1080p with this stuff.
Best known for its stakes in the race for more productive handheld games like the Ayaneo 2S, the computer maker first announced its plans last year to launch a variety of mini PCs. In fact, we’re in a position to test the retro-themed AM01 Mini PC. for review, and it turns out to be a remarkable mini installation that meets the classics of running with low specs. Now that the dust has calmed down a bit with this first release, the pioneers of handheld games are in a position to release the next one. And in addition to offering almost the same, the NES-inspired style makes wonderful strides in terms of specs and price.
Officially unveiled in a live stream, the Ayaneo Mini PC AM02 mimics the taste of Nintendo’s first home console. It’s arguably not as cute as the little Apple PC that arrived first, but it does feature that rather exclusive four-inch display discussed above pinned above. At the launch, Arthur Zhang, CEO of Ayaneo, clarified that it is not simply a “decorative vase,” while also addressing its functionality.
That’s not to say you’ll use it as the Steam Deck, but it will give you access to formula stats as well as real-time fps data. As someone who consistently practices benchmarking, this is a huge win, as it means you don’t have to worry about more programs during testing. You’ll also be able to toggle TDP using the touchscreen, with the settings connecting directly to the device’s Ayaspace settings. Other features come with laugh animations (which I’m a general fan of) and access to things like volume controls and a 24-hour clock.
Yes, I know, all that goes for nothing if the mini PC’s innards aren’t up to scratch. Thankfully, they most certainly are, as the AM02 comes armed with an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS – a chip that’s very similar to the Z1 Extreme within the Asus ROG Ally. Zang provides his own personal outlook on performance by claiming it’ll run big new releases at 1080p low settings, while “well optimised” games should might be able to stretch to medium or high.
I’ve tested quite a few APUs within handhelds, and I think this will probably hold true on paper, which is an exciting prospect to say the least. As for how it’ll actually keep cool, the AM02 is armed with a “Four-Copper Pipe Cooling System” that’s designed to keep everything frosty and prevent throttling.
As for its price, the Ayaneo Mini PC AM02 starts at $439 for a barebones system, but you’ll be able to pick up models with DDR5 RAM and an SSD included for up to $629. Just like the rest of the company’s products, the mini rig is currently available via Indiegogo, but should make its way to other retailers eventually.

I’ve been gaming on PCs, video game consoles, and generations since before I can talk. Don’t get me wrong, I started my relationship with the generation by putting a Hot Wheels double-decker bus on my parents’ VCR, but we all have to start somewhere. I even managed to become a walking, talking shopping advisor at my teenage job in a supermarket, which helped me accept my career destiny. So instead of trying to achieve my dreams as a musician or get my school degree, I started running my own old-fashioned pop culture site and writing about gaming and generation for sites like TechRadar, The Daily Star and the BBC before, despite It’s all topped off with an assignment covering graphics card shenanigans on PCGamesN.
