You may have noticed that this message circulating on Facebook and Twitter appeared as an undeniable sushi as a genuine menu item.

It went viral on social media

The photo was originally posted through Ruth Leong in the Facebook group Asian Traits.

According to the photo, five pieces of sushi cost $2.30.

“It’s more expensive than a plate of rice. But I guess when you just need that sushi rice … it’s for you,” Leong wrote.

The photo was then reposted on Zen The Geek’s Facebook page, where the photo saw a dazzling rice go viral, getting more than 20,000 shares. In the changed legend of Leong, she talked about the place to eat Sushi Tei, the sushi chain with thirteen outlets in SingaporeArray

However, we were unable to locate the sushi option in the online menu.

Since then, we have contacted Sushi Tei for feedback and will update them when they respond.

Ordinary sushi one thing

A Japanese who compiles menu pieces from chain places to eat commented that you can order simple sushi rice from Hamasushi and Kappa Sushi, two chains of conveyor belt sushi.

Another sushi chain, Sushiro, also sells simple sushi rice that you can take home.

A set of 24 pieces of sushi rice will cost you 350 yen ($4.49 S).

Ready-to-use frozen sushi rice can also be eaten elsewhere if you don’t plan to make sushi right away, such as this list at Yahoo Japan for a 15-piece package of sushi rice for 390 yen ($5.01 S)

Which brings us to the reason why other people only ask for rice for sushi alone.

It’s deceptively simple: mix rice with the coverage of your choice, as seen in this takeaway game “Make your own sushi temaki” through Sushiro.

That said, unless you suddenly feel like eating salmon sushi while halfway to your sashimi dish, it’s still rare to order only regular sushi rice while dining.

As such, it is still rare for simple sushi rice to cross the routine of sushi chains, as suggested by some tweets from surprised Japanese consumers.

“There’s a plate of sushi rice circulating hahaha”
