Chinese phone maker Nubia has been promoting gaming smartphones with its Red Magic logo for more than four years. Now, the company is expanding into gaming tablets.
The first Red Magic tablet features a 12. 1-inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz, a touch pattern frequency of 240 Hz and a brightness of up to 600 nits, as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8Gen 1 processor and passive “ICE”. The “magic cooling system” that, according to the company, is helping to keep the temperature low in the game. The pill is on pre-order in China with prices starting at CNY 3,999 (around $550)
While Nubia focuses on the tablet’s gaming credibility, it also offers a pretty clever spec set at a fairly affordable price (at least compared to Samsung’s flagship tablets).
The tablet has LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3. 1 memory and is available in 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB configurations. All models are delivered with 10,000mAh batteries and 80W fast charging.
Red Magic is equipped with 4 speakers with DTS audio, a 16MP front camera and a 13MP rear camera, and supports optional accessories that add a stylus and magnetic keyboard.
Wireless features come with WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5. 3 and 5G cellular connectivity. The Red Magic pill has a steel unibody chassis, measures 280 x 182 x 6. 5 mm and weighs 613 grams.
The pill comes with RedMagicOS 8. 0, which is the company’s custom edition of Android 13. And this is where the whole concept of a gaming pill arises as opposed to the question of whether it makes sense. Most local Android games can run on devices that don’t have premium specs and you can use almost any Android device to stream games from Microsoft, NVIDIA, or Amazon’s cloud gaming facilities.
A fast processor, plenty of RAM and storage, and a complex cooling formula can come in handy if you plan to use the tablet to emulate. But worth over $550, you’re better off getting a Steam Deck if you need a portable gaming rig.
That said, the Red Magic Pill has at least one thing that the Steam Deck (and even Red Magic phones) don’t: passive cooling, which allows for quiet operation.
Global pricing and availability have yet to be announced, but given that Red Magic phones tend to go on sale worldwide, I’d be surprised if the company didn’t sell its first tablet outside of China.
The main profit resources of Liliputing are advertising and associated links (if you click on the “Buy” button in the most sensitive part of the page and buy anything on Amazon, for example, we will earn a small commission).
But there are several tactics to run the site, even if you use an ad blocker* and hate online shopping.

This tablet can use a keyboard, but the challenge is that most Android games don’t use a keyboard, mouse, or mouse pad. Android is a nightmare in this regard.
Almost any Android device can use a Bluetooth keyboard. If anything, it simply makes the selection to display it as if it were something new, even strange.
