The value of the 62% fines ended the week at US$100. 90 per tonne on the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX) trading platform. This represents a gain of 1. 45% from Thursday’s close below $100 at $99. 46, in line with the tonne.

Traders were indifferent to the new physically strong figure for Chinese imports in July, which amounted to 102. 8 million tonnes.

At the end of the week, a small glimmer of positive news appeared: a second consecutive weekly drop in iron ore stocks in Chinese ports. The Mysteel website reported that iron ore stocks at China’s forty-five major ports amounted to 150 million tonnes, down 462,500 tonnes (equivalent to two cargoes from BHP, Fortescue or Rio Tinto).

Despite the drop, the stock remained 21% higher than a year ago.

July crude metal production figures are expected to be published this week. In June, crude metal production reached 91. 61 million tons, a slight increase of 0. 3% until June 2023.
