The Immokalee Foundation was decided as part of Microsoft’s national Techspark program

Microsoft has invested in Southwest Florida.

The Immokalee Foundation decided, as a component of the company’s national Techspark program, to expand economic opportunities in our region.

Children and computers go hand in hand, but in all neighborhoods, in all communities.

Microsoft needs to replace that. The purpose is to show young people the possibilities.

“All they want is a chance to be exposed to something,” said Noemi Perez, executive director of the Immokalee Foundation. “Once they know their interests, it creates a hobby in them that they want to spend and be more informed about it. “”

Perez said the nership is a two-year pilot program.

With the corresponding budget from the Collier County Industrial Authority, 157 fellows will participate in a four-week program.

“Not only will they have the opportunity to take a look at the program, but also to meet some of the other people in our network who are applying to this chart and be informed about the long-term opportunities they will have, as well as what kind of schooling they will want to move into the exam box that interests them,” Perez said.

Dean Kagdi, from FGCU’s Whitaker College of Engineering, told WINK News that the school will also get involved in the program, offering and mentoring students.

The hope is that this aid will also stimulate task creation and innovation.

“We’re talking about complex skills that require the application of synthetic intelligence, device learning, cybersecurity, virtual truth and augmented truth, and all the other things that will become the mainstay if they’re not already there, right?”Kagdi said.

Microsoft calls its program Techspark, and since its launch in 2017, the company has said it has worked in eight communities, helping another 55,000 people and creating 3300 jobs.

The Techspark program will begin in January and will cover sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Each student will get four weeks of virtual training.
