The archaeologists of France discovered dozens of tombs of men of the Roman era who were buried with “curse tablets”, of which at least one written in an extinct language.
The excavations under a 18th -century hospital in the city of Orleans, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) southwest of Paris, have revealed more than 60 buried burials in a single row along a wall. The cemetery, which dates from the end of the first century until the beginning of the third century, was for this time because the burials were dug in a row there were no cremations. This can mean that the dead came here from a specific group, as members of the same profession, according to the Orleans Archeology Service, which registered the site.
Even more was the discovery of 21 curse tablets, which are small lead plates wrapped with inscriptions.
Also known by the Latin term “defixiones,” curse tablets have been found throughout the ancient Mediterranean world. These thin sheets of lead were used to talk to the gods. Someone would write down a curse or wish, pierce the tablet with a nail, and place it in the ground via a grave or well.

The guy in the tomb F2199 was buried with a curse of curse between his legs, next to a crushed vase and several pieces. After recovering the tomb tablet, an expert in catering techniques chemically treated the narrow lead plate to protect it from corrosion. Then, the photographs took the symbol of reflectance transformation, which produced a transparent symbol of the unwindling tablet. Then, additional mavens are established in paintings to decipher the Latin cursive registry and translate galic words.
Pierre-Yves Lambert, an expert in Celtic linguistics of the French National Center for Scientific Research, proposed that the pill of the curse F2199 is committed to “Mars Rigisamu”, which is Galico for “Mars the Real”, or the Roman God of the War of War . The registration designates several other people, in Latin and Gaulish, who are directed through the curse of their unfair actions.
While Gaulish continued to be used for several centuries after the Roman conquest of the region, it was rarely written, so that the curse tablets already give new vital examples of this missing language.
