The Air Force will need to integrate the scope of the AI “Maven Project” into ABMS; Will Roper quoted

The U.S. Air Force It is in the process of moving its program for the synthetic intelligence effort of the Maven Project to the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) portfolio in an effort to expand the war reach of the Maven project, FedScoop reported on Monday.

Will Roper, Undersecretary of Acquisition, Technology and Logistics of the Air Force and winner of the 2020 Wash100 Award, told the publication that the service integrates more machine-to-machine and AI knowledge elements into the ABMS network.

The ABMS will serve as a major component of the All Areas Joint Command and Control System (JCDA2), which will come with sensors deployed in the land, air, maritime, area and cyber domains. The Air Force plans to use AI-activated ABMS to ingest raw battlefield data, according to the report.

“There is no longer any difference between progression systems and PC warfare systems,” Roper said. “ABMS and Maven will begin coding this line in September.”

Google, the contractor for the Maven project, resigned from its contract with the Ministry of Defense (DoD) in 2018 due to moral problems.

The White House has announced plans to release 100 megahertz from the average band spectrum for 5G advertising networks and request the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to upload the radio frequency band used through the military until December 2021.
