Tesla moves some in Cybertruck production, while the corporate faces a global fall in deliveries

Tesla is moving some of the Cybertruck production groups to its Austin plant, according to 3 at the facility.

The shift has come as the automaker grapples with a rare annual decline in deliveries, which is seen as a proxy for sales. The EV maker delivered about 1.79 million vehicles overall in 2024, down about 1% from the previous year.

Now, some Cybertrucks are being reassigned to produce Company Y’s best-selling model.

The automobile manufacturer informed the staff in December that it would replace Cybertruck and Model production schedules and ask staff about their paint tasks, according to a survey noticed through Business Insider.

“As we continue to compare schedules to meet the wishes of the business, we will be making a replacement in Model Y and Cyber schedules and we need to make sure their personal tastes are taken into account,” the survey said.

Two employees described conversion production schedules for existing cars as unusual. Typically, such adjustments only occur for new cars, they said.

The two workers said they were told during meetings with supervisors that month that Tesla was scaling down its Cybertruck team and planned to produce fewer parts for the truck during the first quarter of 2025. The workers said some staff would move to different Cybertruck teams amid the larger schedule changes.

The 3 said that the adjustments are expected to enter into force on Monday.

Tesla has not announced schedule adjustments in its main factories, Nevada and Fremont, California, which do not produce Cybertruck, according to six employees of these factories.

An Austin Gigafactory employee said other people sought to stay in the Cybertruck team, but “other people were forced to move on. ” The employee assumed that the replacement due to the upper benefit margins in the Y.
