Tesla has announced all V4 Superchargers can now charge up to 325kW in North America, but for now, only the Cybertruck can take advantage of the upgraded power output.
The current Supercharger situation can be quite confusing.
Tesla has four different generations of its Superchargers, but things got mixed up with the latest V4 generation.
In 2016, when communicating about SuperRater V3, I asked if the new edition of the fast-charging station would be rated 350 kW, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that 350 kW would be a “toy for kids”:
However, Superrater V3 ended up limited to 250 kW. This worked for Tesla vehicles, but Tesla now opens the network to electric vehicles that are not from Tesla, and many of them will describe 400 kW, and several other load terminals are the load rate.
Since then, Tesla has implemented the deployment of the V4 compressor, but has been disappointing because Tesla has so far displayed new V4 load supports with V3 cabinets, which supply strength to Super Cargers.
These stations are the V3 compressor.
Last summer, Tesla said he ran to allow those V3 compressors to qualify more than three hundred kW.
So now we’ll have a mix of V2, V3, V3+, and V4. Make it make sense.
Tesla has now announced:
All V4 positions in North America can now qualify up to 325 kW for Cybertruck.
The announcement specifically mentions “V4 posts”, which would mean the V3+ stations with V4 stalls and V3 cabinets.
At the moment, the Tesla Cybertruck is the vehicle in the diversity of Tesla that can take the merit of the upper output power, however, there are many electric cars that are not tesla that can use it.
More recently, Tesla has announced that it now begins to implement the V4 comprehension stations by buying with the V4 cabinets capable of 500 kW.
