SKOKIE, Ill. , May 16, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The highly anticipated luxury convertibles in the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL-Class will feature two of the newest suspension technologies from Tenneco’s (NYSE: TEN) Monroe Smart® suspension portfolio. The new models, which represent the eighth generation of the iconic SL range, will be presented with Tenneco’s CVSA2 semi-active suspension or CVSA2/Kinetic® built-in suspension. Both systems for Mercedes-AMG models are already in production at Tenneco’s newly expanded driving function production complex. in Gliwice, Poland.
The 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL roadsters will offer Tenneco’s CVSA2 semi-active suspension or the built-in CVSA2/Kinetic® suspension.
Developed for supercars and SUVs with maximum performance, the CVSA2 generation offers an incredible driving experience in virtually any operating environment. The system, which will be a popular device on the SL 43 and 55 models, includes lightweight semi-active surprise dampers with two externally fixed electro-hydraulic valves that independently control rebound and compression. Each surprise damper is frequently adjusted through software that monitors multiple knowledge points, adding guide wheel angle, vehicle speed, acceleration, and frame displacement. The generation allows for a highly flexible diversity of adjustment between minimum and maximum damping levels, allowing for exceptional comfort, manoeuvrability and stability.
Available as an option on the SL 55 but as a popular device on the high-end SL 63, the CVSA2/Kinetic suspension combines all the benefits of the CVSA2 generation with a state-of-the-art active roll formula that reduces vehicle weight by getting rid of the need for roll bars. Together, the formulas offer exceptional traction, steering response, balance and braking comfort, as well as front lift capability for greater ground clearance.
