The tech giant is offering a new member-only benefit: healthcare. One Medical’s in-person features are only available in a few states, including Texas.
The Federal Trade Commission has already raised privacy considerations about the company’s new partnership with the fitness department. This is what you want to know:
Amazon acquired One Medical, 15 years ago, in February 2023.
The company offers in-office and 24/7 virtual care services, on-site labs and systems for preventive care, chronic care management, common illnesses and intellectual fitness issues, according to a press release about the acquisition.

Prime members would pay $9 per month (or $99 per year) for the membership, which costs $199. They can add up to five additional memberships for $6 per month each.
Prime members can search for One Medical on Amazon. com or stop by health. amazon. com/prime to sign up. They can decide to pay per month or they will then be redirected to the One Medical online page to download the app, create an account and upload more members.
Yes. You don’t want insurance to use One Medical, but the club doesn’t cover everything. Payment includes virtual access at no additional cost, whether you have insurance or not.
However, if you require in-person care or have a pre-scheduled remote visit, this will be billed to insurance or paid out of pocket. The company accepts fitness plans from most insurance companies.
The Federal Trade Commission issued a report after the acquisition in February, concerned about the risk of the companies violating customer coverage laws.
“The statements contained in One Medical’s privacy policies, combined with the two corporations’ recent public statements on privacy, constitute promises made to consumers regarding the post-acquisition entity’s collection and use of their data,” the FTC wrote, warning that the corporations objected. to any violation of the law and provides a false impression of confidentiality of information.
He continues: “Companies that do not have sufficiently good safeguards or controls in place to protect sensitive knowledge, or that do not discharge explicit and affirmative consumer consent to conduct marketing based on sensitive knowledge, such as fitness knowledge, would potentially be breaking the law. “
Amazon and One Medical said this week that they do not sell fitness data and that they “use that data to deliver care, make it less difficult to get care, and keep patients safe. “
While telehealth is available nationally, in-person visits can only be done at certain locations.
