Target joins Walmart to close for Thanksgiving this year

Two of the largest stores in the United States will close their doors on Thanksgiving this year, without ignoring a recent culture of keeping lighting fixtures on so consumers can look for bargains after their turkey dinners.

Target said Monday that he would do it for Turkey a day after Walmart announced the same plans last week.

“Let’s face it: historically, for party deals and groceries it can mean crowded events, and this is not a year for crowds,” the store said in a blog post on its website, promising savings at its outlets and online “before ever.”

He also said he would make more than 20,000 items, adding new and frozen food, to be picked up on the sidewalk and deliveries before the holidays, his Shipt platform.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, highs agree that this holiday season will be very different from that of years gone by. There is growing concern around a momentary wave of Covid-19 cases that increases the classic flu season and temperatures will drop. Retailers, in turn, want to tailor their plans to meet visitor expectations and be alert to the protection of their employees.

In addition to the uncertainty, Amazon postponed its annual Prime Day grocery shopping event, which is in July, to “later than usual” this year. But he hasn’t set a date for the company yet.

Amazon Prime Day’s delay is likely to put more pressure on stores to get started with their offerings, even earlier, in an effort to compete.

Dick’s Sporting Goods also announced Monday that its retail outlets would be closed on Turkey Day this year, adding its Golf Galaxy and Field-Stream locations.

Target first opened on Thanksgiving in 2011.
