The industrial district’s cooling system, which will be designed and through SP Group, is the largest in Singapore with a cooling capacity of up to 36,000 tonnes of refrigerant (RT)
The benefits come with 20% savings in cooling-related electrical energy intake and carbon emission relief of up to 120,000 tonnes consistent with the year.
Estimated allocation of USD 370 million over 20 years
SINGAPORE, June 2, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving consumers across the spectrum of electronic applications, and SP Group (SP), a leading application organization in Asia-Pacific and Singapore’s national network operator, announced the signing of an agreement for the installation of a district cooling formula at TechnoPark ST AMK. With an estimated allocation price of USD 370 million over 20 years, it will be Singapore’s largest district cooling (DCS) formula to be implemented for business progression when it becomes operational in 2025.
Under the agreement, SP will design, build, own and operate the DCS, offering ice water as a service to meet the production and cooling needs of the ST area. With a cooling capacity of up to 36,000 tonnes of refrigerant (RT), ST will help achieve annual savings of 20% in cooling-related electrical energy intake through the power of the aggregate cooling system, and enable ST to reduce carbon emissions up to 120,000 tonnes per year for ST Technopark, which is equivalent to taking 109,090 cars off-road. This decarbonization is the result of lower energy consumption and a greater ability to integrate solar energy and fluorocarbon relief appliances (PFCs) through the reuse of more than 4,000 square meters (m²) of cooling area that will be released once the DCS is nationally consistent.
The cooling formula will be the first st implementation of district cooling in a global production facility. ST is committed to the global purpose of adapting to unbiased carbon emissions by 2027. Adopting district cooling in its largest wafer production (in volume) will be key It is important to ensure that the facility meets the minimum power criteria (MEES) set by the National Environment Agency (NEA), and that the company achieves its sustainability purposes.
“The cooling formula in Singapore will be the first implementation of district cooling ST in a production facility globally and is a firm commitment to our purpose of installing carbon neutral emissions globally by 2027,” said Rajita D’Souza, President of Human Resources and Corporate Social Responsibility at STMicroelectronics. “Our adoption of district cooling at our largest wafer production facility (by volume), where it will remove 120,000 tonnes of carbon from the environment, equivalent to 30% of ST Singapore’s carbon emissions by 2021, is a key catalyst for the facility and the company to achieve its sustainability purposes. “
STANLEY Huang, President and CEO of SP Group, said: “District cooling is a key sustainable energy solution to enable long-term low carbon for cities, municipalities and commercial parks. To enable the decarbonisation of Singapore’s commercial sector, we custom-designed this solution to energy-intensive production advances, such as STMicroelectronics’ TechnoPark, reducing your energy consumption and carbon footprint in line with your sustainability strategies. in achieving its net targets 0. »

Notes to the editor:
In Singapore, urban cooling is gaining traction as a cutting-edge solution to rethink and make cooling of building interiors more sustainable while reducing their carbon footprint. The solution centralizes the production of ice water which is then directed to community constructions for air conditioning and process refrigeration. The benefits of urban cooling are quadruple: it improves energy efficiency, reduces the cooling load, frees up selection area for potential business purposes, and reduces carbon emissions.
