‘Squid Game: Unleashed’ Is A New Video Game Based On The Hit Netflix Show — But I’m Confused By The Trailer

Netflix just released a trailer for its upcoming mobile game based on the hit Korean dystopian TV series Squid Game, and it’s very strange.

Here, let’s watch the trailer and then I’ll explain my thinking below.

The game will arrive on Netflix around the same time as season 2 (December 26) but does not have a precise release date yet. It’ll be free to Netflix subscribers on iOS and Android, and since it’s Netflix, there won’t be any microtransactions or annoying lags or any of that nonsense that makes mobile gaming so frustrating.

But I’m really trying to figure out who this game’s target audience is, because it looks like a game for kids but the subject matter is incredibly dark. Squid Game is not a kid’s show, obviously, but then why does this game look like it’s been made for elementary school kids? The deaths look goofy, with all kinds of grim ways to die, but basically no blood.

It seems like an exaggeration. Like they’re exploiting that cash cow to the max with the ridiculous real series based on Squid Game, a second season I’m not sure we needed and now this mobile game. I also think it’s a shame that Netflix limits its games to mobile, because I prefer to play them on PC. The new Dragon Prince: Xadia game is fun, but I don’t like to gamble on my phone.
