Musician and editor Spencer Tweedy (Jeff’s son and teammate) has announced a new ebook created in collaboration with graphic designer Lawrence Azerrad and photographer Daniel Topete.Mirror Sound: A look at the other people and processes of self-recorded music comes from October 20th to 20th.Prestel.
Mirror Sound offers a review of the house’s recording strategies of new artists such as Sharon Van Etten, Vagabon, Bradford Cox by Deerhunter, Suzanne Ciani, Mac DeMarco, the vanquished Emitt Rhodes, etc.The e-book also includes a prologue through Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein and more than 150 photographs of studio visits.Below is the canopy of Mirror Sound, with Vagabon.
“I was thinking about the musicians who record themselves and how their music has that special sound that turns out to come only from an artist running into their own space,” Spencer Tweedy said in a press release.”I’ve self-registered ever since, high school and I love the procedure, but I haven’t noticed many stories about it (although making-of things are more common). So we started running all over the country, interviewing and photographing artists recording records at home., on the road, in its rooms, in barns.
