The Spacex’s Starship Flight 7 project will verify a new edition of Starship and is the first of 25 Starship releases this year. With the upper vehicle of the stacked spacecraft on its super heavy reinforcement, the entire rocket measures approximately 400 feet (122 meters) high, which makes it the highest and maximum resistant release vehicle on Earth.
As its call suggests, flight 7 will mark the seventh verification of the Spacex spacecraft, which is designed to be a completely reusable launch formula for the missions to the orbit of the earth, the moon Mars and beyond. NASA took advantage of the spacecraft to obtain its artemis 3 astronauts on the moon in 2027, while the founder of Spacex, Elon Musk, hopes to launch an unrelated edition of Starship in March 2026.
During the Jan. 13 flight, SpaceX will test a series of enhancements to the Starship spacecraft, including upgrades to its flight computer, avionics and heat shield. The spacecraft is also carrying a set of simulated Starlink internet satellites, which SpaceX hopes to deploy in space during the 66-minute flight.
The spaceship vehicle on flight 7 also has smaller front blinds that have been far from their thermal shield to reduce exposure to excessive heat of the school year, Spacex wrote in a project description. Spacex also refines an engine in the first super heavy rocket in 33 engines for the first time.
“The upcoming flight check will launch a next-generation shipment with significant upgrades, tentr sparsend of Starsend’s payload deployment payload, flies over several re-entry experiments intended to send capture and reuse, and release and convert the super-heavy booster,” SpaceX wrote in the project overview.
If all goes well, the super-heavy scene of Starship Flight 7 will return to Earth to be captured via giant steel “stick” arms on their release pad at Starbase. SpaceX was successful on such a rocket in October from its flight verification of flight five, but signaled an attempt to take a flight 6 launch a month later.
SpaceX officials have said they will only proceed with the Flight 7 Super Heavy catch if the rocket and its launch tower each meet critical criteria to ensure a safe catch. If those criteria aren’t met, the Super Heavy will automatically default to a soft landing and splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico, as it did during Flight 6.
“We don’t settle for any compromises when it comes to making sure that the safety of the public and our team, and the return only takes a stand if the situations are right,” SpaceX managers wrote in the mission preview.
