Apple failed to notify Big 3 publishers of a replacement in iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur that directs users who write an Apple News + story in Safari to the ‌Apple News app on the publisher’s website, according to Ad Age. The report claims that two of the publishers are contemplating whether to end their appointments with Apple News + after the update, but for now they are taking a wait-and-see approach.

According to the report:

Two of the publisher executives told Ad Age that they are getting decent traffic from their deal with Apple, but now they wonder what that will be like, as they all have greater opportunities for monetization through their properties.

In an exchange with Dieter Bohn of The Verge earlier this week, Apple said the update presented publishers “greater opportunities for participation and earnings in Apple News,” adding that users had the flexibility to adjust their preferences. be discovered in Settings> News> Open Internet links in News. In macOS Big Sur, open the Apple News app and click News> Preferences… on the menu bar.

Apple is committed to creating the most productive fun for Apple News + subscribers. This update seamlessly provides subscribers with the content that is part of their News + subscription directly in the News app or in the Publisher app, as well as increased engagement and earning opportunities on Apple News. News + subscribers can set their personal link tastes in their News settings.

Editors’ reception of Apple News has been mixed. In June, The New York Times withdrew from Apple News, saying the service “aligns with its strategy of building direct relationships with paid readers. ” By contrast, the Wall Street Journal said this week that its association with Apple News‌ gave the publication a “significantly new audience,” adding more women and young people.
