Last month, Twitter owner Elon Musk used one of his tweets to challenge Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg: “I’m ready for a cage attack if he is. “Zuckerberg responded in 4 words: “Send me the location. ” This combat has not materialized, but the virtual combat turns out to be intensifying.
INSTAGRAM THREADS Meta owns Instagram and that company on Wednesday unveiled a new app called “Threads” that looks a lot like Twitter.
“It will be strategicly, intentionally and blatantly to Twitter,” says social media representative Matt Navarra.
Some “Threads” a “Twitter killer”.
“Threads” is billed as a text chat app. Instagram users can link their accounts to the new app and the same people.
The app gained 10 million subscriptions within seven hours of launching, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on his verified Threads account.
“Instagram has 2 billion users versus about 250 million on Twitter. So if only one in ten users try to use threads, they beat Twitter in the blink of an eye,” said social media commentator Drew Benvie.
A NEW PROBLEM This is just the latest challenge for Twitter CEO Elon Musk. There’s already a festival of BlueSky Social, a new app introduced through Twitter inventor and former CEO Jack Dorsey. Musk is also facing backlash over his recent resolution to restrict the number of tweets users can see.
“Since Elon Musk took over, the formula itself is working as well as it should. Over the weekend alone, we saw Twitter stop working and limits were set for users so that it no longer breaks servers,” says Benvie.
Musk says some of his moves are an attempt to prevent unauthorized scraping of potentially valuable data. He also recently commented on a screenshot of Instagram Threads’ privacy segment on the App Store that shows what non-public data is collected. those issues prevent Instagram users from downloading the new app.
