Mattress-in-a-box brands are all the rage these days. But Saatva excels at doing things in an old-fashioned way. The Saatva Classic bed, a pillar of the brand, is overbuilt with a double layer of coils with memory foam, covered in plush cotton and surrounded by reinforcement. Foam to keep the whole bed in good condition.

In the land of purple, it doesn’t get much better than the RejuvenatePlus mattress. This is the company’s most expensive and premium model. The core is made of durable, high-density foam that provides cushioning and support with a cloudy feel. This is complemented through exclusive layers of breathable fabrics to ensure you don’t get too hot or too cold, but the best night.
After a several-month review, one of our editors found that the bed lived up to its promises. Relieves pressure and controls temperature all in one. The padded canopy, the only component your frame rests directly on, is comfortable and fluffy but offers smartArray. Additionally, the edge-to-edge three-zone springs lend meaning to the frame and ensure it’s easy to get in and out of the bed. All this makes it the most comfortable bed for almost anyone. , but especially for those people with back pain.
Our editor surely enjoyed this bed, especially its ability to relieve her painting-related aches and pains. ” As copywriters, our task is to sit in front of a computer all day, and since we paint from home most of the time, we regularly crane our necks to look at the computer from the kitchen table,” he said. My neck hurts, but just two weeks of sleep in my new bed made a difference in my neck, shoulder, and upper back pain.
As much as we enjoy the luxurious feel of this bed, some might find it too comfortable and fluffy. But the real elephant in the room with this bed is courage. With a starting value of over six thousand dollars (for a queen-size bed), it’s one of the most expensive beds ever tested. Add in the company’s bed frame and that value is close to $7,000. Free at-home installation is included, so there you have it. In addition, Purple backs up this bed, as well as all of its beds, with a 100-night sleep trial and, on top of that, a 10-year warranty.

Not too firm and not too comfortable – that’s what most sleepers and couples, in particular, look for in a bed. Helix’s Midnight Elite is the most productive in its diversity. The medium-firm design is flexible and works with a wide variety of sleepers, regardless of their preferred sleeping position. This bed features five layers of high-density memory foam, which are comfortable yet provide support to relieve strain issues in the hips and shoulders. It’s a great choice for side and stomach sleepers. Two additional layers of wrapped microcoils add extra cushioning and help reduce strain on your back.
Lindsay Geller, WH Lifestyle Director, noticed a huge improvement in her back pain after sleeping with Midnight Elite for over a month. “I noticed that my back pain disappeared almost overnight. As a stomach or side sleeper who has a habit of changing positions throughout the night, I feel supported throughout this bed no matter what position I end up sleeping in. Plus, Helix made it easy for her to find the most comfortable bed for her. online. “I love being able to take a quiz that determines the most productive bed to meet my expressed sleep needs because it worked better for me than trying a bed in a brick-and-mortar store. ” With Midnight Elite, Helix adds in its exclusive edition “Advanced GlacioTex Elite technology. That’s a fancy way of saying that this bed helps keep you cool at night. It uses phase replacement fabric to regulate the temperature of your frame without you having to think about it. When you’re hot, it helps keep you cool. When it’s hot When it’s cold, it helps trap heat from the frame, making it the most productive bed for year-round comfort. Like many of the most productive and comfortable beds we’ve tested, the Midnight Elite doesn’t come cheap. Helix, however, offers loose shipping and we have found that she also regularly offers loose bedding, adding a sheet set, pillow set, and bed protector. We also like the forged hundred Nights Indoor. Sleeping in a cooler bed can actually improve your sleep (seriously). But it can still be tricky if you tend to get hot at night. There are many pieces of bedding (including bedspreads, sheets, and cooling pillowcases) that can help you regulate your temperature during the night. But Casper’s aptly named Snow Mattress promises to keep you up to five degrees cooler. We’ve found that it also pairs well with Casper’s Ultra-Cold Foam Pillow with Snow Technology.
In addition to working well for hot sleepers, the Snow bed is also wonderful for other people with back pain. The company’s foam trim lining the perimeter makes getting in and out of bed a breeze. Additionally, the fourth layer (of six) of memory foam features zones designed to relieve tension issues and align the spine. Flexible pocket springs in the fifth layer provide additional movement and also reduce movement (great for couples!).
Our very own WH Fitness editor (and self-proclaimed sleeper), Jennifer Nied, confirms that the Snow bed delivers. “This bed is the GOAT for restful sleep, especially in hot or humid weather. “After a months-long trial, he said Maravillas that it “offers a lot of support and it’s luxurious, and it’s fantastic for supporting your back. “
She also says her husband loves it too. “I don’t have back pain, but my husband (who refuses to stretch/warm up for exercise) does, and we sleep so soundly on it. As a sexy sleeper, “An exciting new release that I jumped into and I’m so glad I did. “
We had a hard time finding much to complain about about this maximum productivity bed. The medium firmness knit is comfortable yet supportive, so it’s flexible enough to be compatible with any sleeping style, from back to sides and tummy. This makes it a very productive maximum engagement bed or an ideal choice for couples who might sleep differently. The most productive part, though, is that it’s oddly well priced, around $1,700 (for a queen-size bed), with free, contactless shipping included. Like many of the top tested comfort and productive bed brands, Casper offers a 100-night at-home trial and a 10-year bogus warranty.

We have been enthusiasts of Leesa budget beds for a few years now. They’re not the cheapest or the best, but they offer a cash price that deserves to be the best for as many buyers as possible. The old-school Leesa Original bed features a medium firmness that is suitable for at most any sleeper. There’s also an extra layer of memory foam recovery for extra stress relief, making this bed a smart buy for those suffering from back pain.
The multi-layer design cradles and supports your hips, back and shoulders like a champ. We personally liked how this bed fit the frame, offering the perfect measurement without feeling like you were sleeping too much on or in the bed. The signature core is an added bonus as it helps keep your body in position regardless of your sleeping position. WH editorial assistant Addison Aloian was recovering from a back injury when she received a trial bed. She has been sleeping very well on it for over two years because she feels very good. “As someone with back pain, this gave me just the right amount of side sleep because it’s companionship but also gentle,” she says. “Some days I don’t need to take it off. Plus, it lasts well for years. I definitely recommend it!” There are plenty of boxed bed brands to choose from, and many look like copies of each other. We think the Leesa Original is a standout bed, comfortable, bright, well made and incredibly easy to install. But what really sets it apart is its value. Compared to high-end classic spring beds, the price of around $1,000 is a bargain. Plus, Leesa adds free shipping, a 100-night in-home sleep trial, and a 10-year warranty to the package. Some reviewers complain that the two included pillows seem like an afterthought, but we think this bed is still an incredible deal.

Tuft & Needle is one of the OGs in the mattress-in-a-box world, and they’re still among the best in the game. The Nod is the brand’s best (in our opinion) mid-range mattress that’s a more affordable alternative to the original T&N hybrid mattress. It promises to deliver the same quality, comfort, and most of the same features for significantly less.
The hybrid design combines an adaptive foam layer with six-inch coils. Together, it’s the best of both worlds: A medium-firm mattress that’s a perfect option for couples (or anyone, really) looking for that just right “middle of the road” firmness that’s not too soft but not too firm. It’s firm enough to be supportive but soft enough to provide the gentle “hug” feel without sinking in too much.Writer Mike Richard has personally had this mattress for years and absolutely loves it. “I’ve had chronic back pain since I was young, so I like a medium-firm or even firm mattress. But, my girlfriend is a die-hard plush mattress lover,” he says. “Somehow, the Nod Mattress is the perfect balance that works for both of us. Anytime we travel or overnight on a different non-T&N mattress away from home, one of the first things we say to each other is how much we miss our mattress at home!”There’s not much to dislike about the Nod Mattress. It lacks the same gel-infused layer found in Tuft & Needle’s more premium Mint and Hybrid models. But, for the price—less than $900 (queen) delivered from Amazon—it’s hard to complain. There are better or cheaper mattresses out there, but the Nod is a near-perfect mid-range mattress. Bonus: You still get Tuft & Needle’s same rock-solid return policy, 100-night sleep trial, and decade-long warranty, so this really is a risk-free buy.

Buying a comfortable bed as a couple is a challenge. There are millions of features to choose from (including models, sizes, thicknesses, firmness features, and, you get the idea), and finding just one that satisfies you and your spouse can seem nearly impossible. It can be even harder to sleep with another person changing positions throughout the night; This is known as “going round and round. “The Tempur-Adapt bed by Tempur-Pedic solves either problem.
When we last spoke with Dr. Carleara Weiss, Ph. D. , a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, she personally recommended this model. She told us it has a feature called “dynamic spinal support,” which works as motion cancellation or isolation. It’s a dream if you share a bed with a TnT’er. But it is also ideal for those who sleep alone. “If you sleep alone and move around and change situations during the night, this motion cancellation feature will adapt to the curvature of your body during the night,” she says. One of our WH editors is a long-time Tempur-Pedic fan and swears by everything the logo does. “I am obsessed with the Tempur-Adapt bed. It’s definitely an investment, but I have a king-sized ProAdapt and I’m not sure I need anything else,” she says. “It’s the best firmness for me and my husband (and he has a lot more trouble than I do when it comes to beds). . ). ” She also confirms that Tempur-Pedic’s cooling features are genuine. “I live in Texas and hate sleeping with the air conditioning on unless I have to, so having a cooling bed like this is a substitute for play. ” Tempur-Pedic beds are very expensive. While Tempur-Adapt is moderate compared to everything else in the company’s catalog (starting at around $1,700), that value temporarily increases to closer to $3,000 or more if you opt for the upgraded versions that are thicker and with much more features. matrix

Maximum productivity hybrid beds offer maximum productivity from both worlds of spring and foam models. Serta’s iSeries hybrid bed offers the firmness of a spring bed and the fit of memory foam, says W. Christopher Winter, MD, sleep specialist and writer for The Sleep Solution. Like many of the most productive and comfortable beds we’ve tested this year, the 12-inch iSeries Hybrid offers a flexible medium firmness that accommodates all sleeping positions and styles, from back to side to stomach.
Pressure relief generation is ideal for those looking for greater endurance tailored to their sleep patterns. The total 12-inch profile includes 2. 5 inches of memory foam, adding a one-inch layer of moisture-wicking, high-density carbon fiber memory foam. Warmth to keep you cool while you sleep. Another 1. 5-inch layer of Deep Reaction memory foam conforms to the contours of your frame for perfect strain relief.
“I love my natural memory foam bed. But this hybrid style makes me think it’s time for a change,” said one of our own WH editors. “I slept on her for two months and enjoyed her support and comfort. Firmness is best for me, and even though I don’t sleep with a partner right now, I’m sure this bed will pretty much satisfy me. all. !” She also had one thing to add. “My dog loves it too. Does that count?”
Today, hybrid beds are almost as warm as bed-in-a-box models, and there are plenty of features to choose from. It’s the preferred pick of our panel of evaluators, who almost unanimously agreed that it offers the best balance. support, comfort, strain relief, and cooling technology, all for an affordable, mid-range price. You can spend a small fortune on a good mattress. But, in our experience, you don’t have to. If budget is your main concern, but you want a decent mattress (and isn’t that the situation we’re all in?), Bear’s Original Mattress is worth a look. It’s firmer than most in our roundup, which makes for excellent back support, and the cooling gel memory foam top regulates your temperature all year round.
The two-layer design is undeniable compared to all the other comfortable beds we’ve tested this year. The bottom layer is made of a dense memory foam support core, while the more responsive layer combines memory foam and gel-infused memory foam. What this means for you is a firmer than average sleep aid surface, suitable for back or stomach sleepers who want extra help. This is especially ideal for stomach sleepers who want to prevent their hips from sinking too much and putting pressure on their spine. Plus, it’s unexpectedly effective at keeping even all-night sleepers cool and comfortable. One of our editors was skeptical about the look of this bed. “I had no height expectations for a budget bed. It’s part of the value of some of the others I’ve tried this year,” they say. “But. . . I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. If I had to spend my own money on a new bed, I would consider this one. This would be pictures in my own bedroom or even in my guest room. » Starting at around $650 (for a queen bed with a loose bedding set), it’s hard to complain much about this ultra-comfortable bed. The 10-inch thickness is thinner than the maximum we’ve tested this year. , and we think edge help can be better. Still, it’s rarely a very reasonable off-brand purchase. It is a solid sleeping surface with a decent cooling layer that deserves to satisfy maximum sleepers. We especially like that Bear includes loose shipping and returns. Even more unexpected is the 120-night sleep trial and lifetime warranty, which is at best unheard of at this price point.

Even some so-called “companion” beds are enough companionship for some sleepers. For the ultra-discerning, die-hard corporate fan, there’s Brooklyn Bed’s Plank Firm Luxe, appropriately named. It is a double-sided memory foam bed that is more of a “traditional” company on one side and more on the other. Moving from one to the other only requires turning the bed over and making the bed. This dual design has the added benefit of prolonging the life of your bed.
We’ll be fair: this bed may not possibly be comfortable for everyone, but Brooklyn Beds is fair in the fact that it’s not meant to be. It’s “designed to be the most corporate bed on the market. “It’s so important that it was approved by the American Chiropractic Association after a three-month study found it helped relieve back pain, decrease back support, and decrease strain on the spine.
We delivered Plank Firm Luxe to one of our biggest company bed enthusiasts for a three-month sleep test. What do you think?” I’ve been sleeping in company beds since I was a kid, but this is on another level. “The first few nights I hated it,” he says. But after that, it suddenly took hold of me and I enjoyed the extra support. I just sleep on my back and honestly, it’s perfect. I’d buy one in no time. “
This is no doubt a niche mattress. But if you’re a firm believer (get it?) in ultra-firm mattresses, it doesn’t get any better. This model offers the ultimate in rigid support. Plus, it’s breathable and does a great job of cooling (especially with the optional GlacioTex Cooling Cover), too. At around $1,500, it’s on the high end of mid-range mattresses we tested for 2023, but it’s still more affordable than all of our most premium recommendations. Plus, we like that Brooklyn Bedding throws in free delivery, a 120-night sleep trial, and a 10-year warranty into the mix.

Even the most productive mattresses are made with high-tech chemicals and fabrics that may be too heavy for longer sleepers. If you’re careful and conscientious about everything you bring into your home, when adding your mattresses, consider an all-herbal option. Meredith Broderick, MD, neurologist, sleep medication provider, and logo ambassador, loves this one because it’s made with the finest herbal and biologic fabrics, like ultra-fine cashmere, herbal hygroscopic wool, and latex to keep you cool and comfortable. . We enjoy it so much that we include it in our annual Women’s Health Sleep Awards.
The structure of the Birch bed is unique compared to the Maximum beds and indeed compared to the other beds in our selection. While the Maximum is made with polyurethane foams, Luxe Natural features an ultra-premium structure, adding organic cashmere, cotton, and a terry European top. Everything is GOTS, Greenguard Gold certified, so it meets the highest criteria for protection and non-toxicity. Instead of less expensive fabrics like fiberglass, Birch uses 100 percent organic wool, an herbal flame retardant. In addition, Todo is assembled in a GOTS-certified American factory.
Anything organic almost costs more, and this also applies to comfortable, all-natural beds like Birch Luxe Natural. With a delivered price of around $2,400 (queen), it’s not cheap. But if you need the most productive thing for you and your family, you get what you pay for. On the plus side, Birch also includes a 100-night sleep trial and a generous 25-year warranty, so chances are you’ll have this bed for quite some time.

Many of the more decent mid-range queen-size hybrid beds cost upwards of $1,000, but Walmart’s exclusive 12-inch Allswell Luxe Hybrid bed costs less than $400 with free shipping. The design combines many of the most productive elements of coil springs. Bedes and memory foam. Translation: It provides a medium, soft yet supportive firmness and also promises to keep you quite cool.
WH editor Mike Richard tested this bed for a month. “Right out of the box it’s pretty decent, more than I expected from a budget bed. The medium firmness is softer than I expected, so it doesn’t offer as much as I would have liked,” she says. “But I’m a mixed back and side sleeper anyway, so I didn’t have any trouble finding a position comfortable. Array In terms of cooling, I’d say it performs as well as you’d expect from a bed in this cost range. “In other words, he would propose it. “It’s not a Tempur-Pedic, but it gets the job done. “Honestly, for the cost, this one is worth it,” he says. As the ultimate bed-in-a-box bed, the Luxe Hybrid was vacuum-packed into a strangely compact box. Setup was a cinch: Simply place the box next to it. from your bed frame, cut it out, slide the bed all the way out, and let it inflate. The lighter weight ((about 95 pounds) was a big wonder because it made setup easier than the 120+ pound styles we’ve seen. tested repeatedly. Like maximum memory foam beds in those days, this style did not give off any “smells”. memory foam. The Luxe Hybrid ticks all the boxes for what we look for in a comfortable bed. Medium firmness is a Smart compromise for almost any sleeper; it’s comfortable without feeling like you’re sinking into it, and it does a moderate job of keeping you cool, but it’s not as comfortable as other budget and mid-range beds we’ve tested. But, for less than $400 delivered, does all that matter? We think this is a decent buy for anyone looking for comfortable beds on a budget. Our sleep-obsessed writers and editors spent countless hours researching, comparing, and actually sleeping on dozens of top-selling mattresses (all in the name of science, of course!). We tested budget mattresses on Amazon, premium options from Purple, Saatva, and Casper, and everything in between. In the end, our panel of testers decided on the twelve models above as our honest picks of the most comfortable mattresses worth buying in 2023.
If you’re not sleeping well, it’s undeniably due to stress, anxiety, or too much caffeine the night before; the list goes on. But it’s as undeniable as sleeping on an old, tired mattress. Some signs that you want a new mattress.
Visible and teardrop
It’s obvious, but most of us rarely inspect our beds for wear and tear. Check yours seasonally to notice things like rips, tears, holes, and eye spots. Pay special attention to any sagging, lumpy crevices, or even springs that may begin to break. Doesn’t it look structurally sound, like it still supports your bed as it should?
Morning aches and painsIf you’re waking up sore each morning (especially if that’s a new thing), it could be a sign that your mattress isn’t properly supporting you while you sleep. Old mattresses can cause pain in the neck, shoulders, hips, and, of course, the back. Check that your bed returns to its original “form” when you get up each morning. If you notice a lingering outline or an impression of your own body in your mattress, that’s a tell-tale sign that it might be time for an upgrade.
Worsening of breathing problems.
Allergies or asthma can slowly worsen over time in a way that overwhelms you. While there are many conceivable reasons for this, your bedding may not help. Old mattresses harbor more dust mites than any other surface in your home. They can also be an ideal feeding floor for mold, bacteria, and other allergens.
That’s right. . . old
Despite their warranties of 10 years (or more), mattresses have a lifespan. Most innerspring mattresses are designed to last around 8 years. Memory foam typically lasts 8 to ten years, and latex/gel foam beds can last a decade or more. Its precise lifespan depends on use, maintenance, and care. Regardless of the quality of your mattress, replace it after about six years and update it permanently after 8 years.
It’s not comfortable anymore. Even the most productive bed may not be useful to you if it is not comfortable to sleep on. If you just can’t get a good night’s sleep, upgrade your bed. If your current bed is in the manufacturer’s “home” sleep test window, tap them directly to exchange it for some other model.
There are many factors that go into finding the right bed. Firmness, price, size, type (foam, coils, hybrid) and private sleeping position all play a role. That’s why there is no such thing as the best bed, but the best bed for you. These are the most important items to look for to ensure you find the most comfortable bed.
Your sleep position
In our experience and in talking with sleep experts, doctors, and chiropractors over the years, sleep position is the single most important consideration when shopping for a new mattress. It’s the one thing that determines the firmness and type of mattress that’s right for you. “Your mattress plays a significant role in your quality of sleep as well as your overall comfort each night,” says Tomshack. Cavanaugh adds, “Sleeping on a mattress in a position that is not supported properly will lead to painful side effects due to the excess pressure placed on certain body parts.”
So, which bed is the most comfortable for each sleeping position?Overall, Tomshack and Cavanaugh agree that stomach sleepers deserve to get a firmer bed that cushions spinal alignment and prevents hips and spine from sagging too deeply. Side sleepers probably prefer a more comfortable bed that fits and snugs at the hips and deserve feet, the two heavy things they need the most when they sleep on their side. Back-sleepers should opt for a medium-firm bed that provides balance to the spine. The most productive beds for back sleepers deserve to be comfortable enough to minimize strain on the hips, Cavanaugh adds.
Mattress type and materials
Mattress structure is rarely something most of us like to read about. We get it: it’s not the most appealing topic. But if you’re looking for the most comfortable mattress, this one is important. Luckily, it’s not too confusing because there are three main types you should know about: innerspring mattresses, memory foam mattresses, and latex mattresses (more on this later!). (“Hybrid” mattresses are technically a fourth type built using a combination of the first 3. ) Quality
Let’s face it: You spend about a third of your life sleeping, and most of that will probably (hopefully) be on a mattress. Tomshack confirms: “Having enough healthy and restful sleep is very important for maintaining a healthy quality of life. Cavanaugh agrees, noting that one of the most common disorders his patients complain about is difficulty sleeping. Your most productive tip? Your body heals and maintains itself while you sleep. So if you don’t sleep, you don’t heal.
That’s why we recommend buying the most productive bed you can afford. According to Tomshack’s expert opinion: “You need a quality bed to make sure you get the best sleep possible. However, not all beds are created equal. Compressed foam (i. e. , “bed in a box”) are more affordable than most. But they’re rarely that durable, which means you want to update them more often. That’s why he recommends making an investment in a smart spring, memory foam, latex (or even hybrid option). “A high-quality bed made with premium fabrics and personally delivered might cost more, but it will last longer, perform better, and provide years of quality rest. “
Mattress Size
The length of the bed you buy depends on the price and the available space you have in your bedroom. Most buyers stick to the length of the bed they currently have, which is likely the same as the one they’ve been sleeping in. for years.
But Tomshack recommends a king-size bed (76 x 80 inches) for couples. This provides just over 3 feet of comfortable bed area for each sleeper. In addition, he adds that “it’s a wonderful option if one of the partners has a tendency to sleep. “Be a restless or active sleeper, as it allows you to move comfortably without disturbing your partner.
After-sales service
Buying a bed can be a big investment. In addition to finding the most comfortable bed, you need to make sure that the company you’re buying from will accept it after the sale.
Take note of the available delivery features and related fees. Many companies offer free curbside or home delivery, but they might charge more for installing your mattress, cutting up your old mattress, and a premium “white glove” delivery service.
Most brands offer an at-home sleep trial, so you know your purchase is, in fact, risk-free. If the bed is not compatible with you, how simple or complicated does the company make it easy or complicated to change it or leave? Return? Are there return shipping prices or “restocking fees”?
Finally, think about the warranty. All reputable companies reviewed offer a minimum 10-year warranty for their mattresses, and you shouldn’t settle for less. The bottom line: “Make sure you read all the fine print,” Cavanaugh says. “
Each of the three main types of mattresses (insprings, memory foam, and latex) has its strengths and weaknesses. Which one is most comfortable for you depends on what sleeping position you like, whether you sleep hot or cold, and your budget.
Spring mattresses
These are the classic mattresses that most of us grew up with. The design is incredibly versatile. Tomshack confirms that innerspring mattresses are “known for their responsiveness and are suitable for a wide variety of sleeping styles. ” They regularly offer adequate support, making it easy to get in and out. They are also suitable for those who have a tendency to move a lot during the night.
Memory foam mattresses
Unlike beds with innersprings, memory foam models conform more to the body, and softer models provide a soft and “tender” feeling while you sleep. Many buyers describe sleeping on a memory foam bed instead of on it. “They’re great for relieving joint pain and offering support to the spine, but they can also retain heat,” Tomshack says. So, if you’re cold, this can be a wonderful option.
Latex mattresses
Tomshack recommends a latex bed for sleepers who need smart integration and comfort. These beds integrate “the dynamics of springs with the shaping capacity of memory foam, without the sensation of sinking”. Bonus: Natural latex breathes incredibly well and offers the perfect feel.
