Sixers Exploring Penn’s Landing As Site For Possible New State-Of-The-Art Arena, Sources Say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – CBS3 is learning new key points about the Sixers’ plan to build their own arena along Penn’s Landing. A source told Eyewitness News that the target location would be along the river between Market and Chestnut streets. This is the land that is recently occupied through the ice rink of the Blue Cross River.

The Sixers say that with sand and thousands of new jobs, the team would also be dedicated to revitalizing the dominance by building a new school and an African-American museum.

The plan presented to city officials.

The Sixers lease with the Wells Fargo Center is not until 2031, so the procedure may take some time. has been the floor of the team house since the construction was inaugurated in 1996.

“The 76ers have a long-standing relationship with Comcast-Spectacor, however, the organization is exploring all the features for the end of its lease at the Wells Fargo Center in 2031, adding a prospective sand progression at Penn’s Landing,” a Sixers spokesman said.

Some other people are excited about the idea.

“Penn’s Landing would be a stage replacement,” said Harrison Woods, a Center City resident.

“I don’t care where I am, as long as they win,” said Tanya Clark, a resident of South Philadelphia.

Although the Sixers say there will be no direct cash from the town or taxpayer cash, the proposal calls for the allocation to be funded through a state program called the Neighborhood Improvement Zone.

The program allows developers to use certain national and local taxes to pay structural debt.

Delaware River Waterfront Corporation has accepted donations to rebuild the property.

“They did all due diligence on all proposals,” Mayor Jim Kenney said.

The mayor of Philadelphia said that in a few weeks, the waterfront will send him his advice on those offers. But I probably wouldn’t comment until then.

“We’ll see what that advice is, but I’m not directly involved in this process. I don’t think it’s appropriate,” Kenney said.

Some members of the city council are already expressing their opposition if the public budget is used for a new Sixers facility.

“For me, the last thing we want is some other mess of a state-funded sports stadium, which literally comes from a playbook on the economy for fools in the mid-1990s. We ban that kind of idea,” Helen Gym said. a Philadelphia councillor.

Gym took to Twitter his opposition to the proposal that he would use taxpayers’ money.

“It’s a NO ENFER. #Prioridades,” Gym tweeted. “In the bond of the natural anguish in which we stand as a city – mass unemployment, nearby evictions, uned schooled youth and in poor health and others dying – billionaire investors seeking tax assistance are quite located in Array … NOWHERE. ‘

She continued to tweet: “It’s silly to call a position ‘progressive’ when it’s based on the question of whether PUBLIC lands and PUBLICS dollars are transferred to a personal entity. It’s a $$question, lobbying and power.”

Sixers, a new facility, can provide a lot of new taxes.
