The pub erupted at the former Highfields Miners’ Welfare Club on South Street around 9:30 a.m. this morning (Tuesday August).

South Yorkshire Fire said it had five pumps in Doncaster, Edlington, Dearne and Parkway.

Due to the smoke columns, citizens living nearby are asked to keep doors and windows closed despite the heat.

Firefighters said they expected to be on site for “at least another two hours” and asked others to go to the area.

According to the citizens of the “welded” network surrounding the old pub, several fires have occurred in recent years.

It is not yet known what caused the place of fire; the spokesman added that it would be investigated once the fire site was still extinct.
