Senate hearing on Facebook: Executive testified on Instagram’s impact on young users

Facebook Inc. ‘s global chief security officer, Antigone Davis, said her company’s studies of the intellectual aptitude of young people and Instagram were not a “bombshell” in her testimony Thursday. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D. , Connecticut) disagreed.

“I don’t agree with you,” Mr. Blumenthal. This studio is a bombshell. It’s powerful, captivating, and desirable evidence that Facebook knows the destructive effects it has on children and that it has hidden those facts and discoveries.

Davis said the studies had limitations and couldn’t determine causation, but pledged to post more effects and said Facebook was looking for tactics to give external studies access to the company’s data.

Davis, who also faced heated questions from other senators, said Facebook had made “a lot of product changes” to some of its investigations.
