The team at Sunderland’s Vaux brewery gets the green light to turn the empty Roker shelter into a waterfront bar, with the help of George Clarke.
The new Novellos corporate logo opened its doors in the old San Lorenzo House on New Road, Harraton, Washington, and in its first 3 weeks of negotiation it has already been popular,
It was opened through business partners Dean Lathbury and Dorian Koti, who had worked together at the Antico Restaurant in Neville’s Cross, Durham, and were looking to start their own business.
When Casa San Lorenzo closed its doors at the beginning of the year, they took the opportunity to take over the well-known position and thought it had a lot of potential.
Dean said, “We were interested in this site for a while, so when it came out, we did our best to get it. It is well known in the domain and we can see the potential it contains. We know it may be more than it used to be.
While the 70-seat restaurant only needed a bit of modernization and some decorating work, the duo made more adjustments to the bar look of the stall they’re looking to push.
Improvements included removing the old carpet, adding wallpaper, grass walls, lattice fixtures, and neon signs.
Dean said, “The look of the eating position is very popular and has already taken off since we opened, I think the other people in the community missed having a position to eat here. But we need to build the look of the bar and make it more comfortable and comfortable. “attractive position for other people to come and have a drink and chat.
In the coming months, a bar menu will be brought and investments will be made in the beer garden in front of which will correspond to the botanical theme of the bar.
A new addition will also come with the creation of a secret lawn on a recently unused terraced domain on the first floor.
The corporate call is fostered through the Italian word new, the location of the restaurant on New Road and new beginnings.
Dorian said, “It’s only been 3 weeks, but I already had some wonderful feedback. “
On the food side, the menu offers closed dishes with a special twist, with a diversity of pizzas, pastas, steaks and more, with an a la carte menu for early risers and available in Los Angeles.
“Consistency is key for us,” Dean said. We need other people to know that they can expect a smart meal when they come here. We didn’t invent the wheel, but we tried to do things a little differently, like the Scotch egg still with nduja.

Novellos has created about thirty jobs in the region in the bar and dining room of the company.
The opening hours are from 22:00 to 22:00 from Monday to Thursday, to 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays and from 20:00 to 20:00 on Sundays when Sunday lunch is available.
