Seahawks’ Russell Wilson says he taught DK Metcalf to swim during off-season

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson said Thursday that he taught teammate DK Metcalf to swim during the off-season vacation in Mexico.

Wilson explained that it was partly a painting trip, with painting sessions and daily releases, and partly a vacation that allowed the Hawks’ offensive duo to join.

“We were able to do it in combination with Mexico, safely and before COVID went crazy,” Wilson told reporters. “We were able to spend some time there, I don’t know, five, six, seven days, there and we just have a lot of work to do.

He added: “It’s great. In fact, I learned to swim in DK.”

Wilson joked with Metcalf a quick water test and is now “always in the pool.”

“I’m thinking, “Don’t go too long, ” he said on Thursday.

Metcalf has had a rookie season forged for the Seahawks. He managed 58 receptions for 900 yards and seven touchdowns in all 16 regular-season games. He added 11 receptions for 219 yards and one score in two playoff appearances.

The 22-year-old Mississippi home is expected to play a retouted role in Wilson’s pass attack as headline backing Tyler Lockett.

Seattle is scheduled to start the normal season on September 13 when they visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face the Atlanta Falcons.
