Samsung Electronics on Wednesday unveiled a new style of generative synthetic intelligence, hinting that the software will soon be available on its devices.

Generative AI was popularized through Microsoft-backed OpenAI and ChatGPT, which were introduced last year and sparked a race among global tech giants to get ahead. Generative AI relies on so-called giant language models, trained on gigantic amounts of data.

Samsung has said that its generation, Samsung Gauss, is designed for artificial intelligence programs in devices.

Samsung said its style of AI is named after Carl Friedrich Gauss, “the mythical mathematician who established general distribution theory, the backbone of device and AI. “

The AI system has several features: the first, Samsung Gauss Language, is a generative language style that can help write emails and translate content, as well as “improve the user experience. “customer by enabling smarter devices when incorporated into products.

The moment has in-house software developers to write code quickly, while the third party, Samsung Gauss Image, can generate or edit images.

“Samsung Gauss is getting used to worker productivity lately, but it will expand to a variety of Samsung product programs to bring a new experience to users in the near future,” Samsung said in a statement on Wednesday.

Samsung may be one of the first phone brands globally to introduce generative AI into its devices. Daniel Araujo, vice president of Samsung’s cellular business, said on the company’s earnings conference call last month that the generative AI generation will likely catch on with consumers next year.

Apple, Samsung’s biggest rival in the smartphone space, has yet to announce its own generative AI product. The company’s chief executive, Tim Cook, said at Apple’s earnings call last month that the tech giant had “some work in progress” in the generative AI domain, but declined to give additional details.
