One of the most impressive elements of Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 Ultra is the anti-glare display, made of Corning Gorilla Armor Glass that Samsung touts as “maximum scratch resistance yet. “While it’s simple to dismiss this claim in marketing terms, a new durability check from JerryRigEverything proves that Samsung rarely exaggerates much after all.
During his video, JerryRightEverything tests the durability of the S24 Ultra by scratching the screen with other possible selections based on the Mohs hardness scale, ranging from the softest fabrics at point one to the hardest at point 10. The YouTuber’s selection is just starting to show scratches at point seven, but that didn’t create grooves in the glass that started to appear at that point.

As expected, Samsung introduced the new Galaxy S24 phone lineup during its Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17th. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus start at $799.99 and $999.99, respectively, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra starts at $1,299.99. All of the phones are available starting on January 31st, 2024, though you can preorder them now.
We haven’t finished our testing yet, so we can’t comment on the actual functionality of the phones. However, in the limited time we’ve been testing them so far, it looks like Samsung has made minor hardware upgrades. In addition to brighter displays, the new lineup includes larger S24 and S24 Plus models, while the S24 Ultra features what is expected to be a more durable titanium frame.

Instagram will demonstrate HDR photos taken with Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 phones, the two corporations announced. “Every photo and video you take or view will be displayed in its full diversity of colors and contrasts, from the moment you capture content to the moment you publish it,” said Samsung’s vice president of smart imaging, Dr. Hamid Sheikh, at the S24 launch event. “In fact, the Galaxy S24 series will be the first to integrate HDR for images on Instagram. “The app already supports HDR videos.
HDR was one of the few photography-focused features on social media that Samsung announced for its new phones, the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra. The smartphone maker also announced that Instagram, along with rival Snapchat, could use Samsung’s local format. Camera functions to take pictures directly from social media apps.

Following its impressive debut in the S24 series, Samsung announced that its “Google-based AI” will expand to “select Galaxy devices” until mid-2024. TM Roh, head of Samsung’s mobile phone division, now gives us a rough target for new and old devices:
Galaxy AI The Galaxy S24 series is a hybrid AI, either on-device or cloud-based. This year, we will introduce Galaxy AI in around one hundred million Galaxy smartphones for the global expansion of cellular AI.
As a reminder, Samsung shipped around 220 million smartphones over the course of 2023, and Apple surpassed it for the first time, anything Roh has decided to change:
“We are taking the (decrease) in shipment volume seriously,” said Roh, predicting double-digit growth in S24 sales compared to the S23 series.

Following a series of leaks, Samsung has unveiled its next flagship phone series, detailing the new Galaxy S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra at its new Unpacked event. The new smartphones will officially launch on January 31 and will be available for pre-order. starting today, with the base style starting at $799. 99, the Plus style starting at $999. 99, and the premium Ultra phone at $1299. 99.
On our first contact with them, we didn’t notice anything revolutionary about the Galaxy S24 family hardware, each phone has a slightly larger battery and screen than its predecessor. The Ultra now further justifies its hefty price tag with a titanium structure. And all the presentations are noticeably brighter. Instead of reinventing the design wheel, Samsung has focused on creating a suite of AI features based on Google’s basic Gemini models, many of which seem genuinely useful, while others are just for fun.

The cover glass on our smartphones has grown durable enough to withstand more than a few drops nowadays. Whether you’re talking about Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus or the iPhone’s “ceramic shield,” displays have gotten pretty tough. But one common complaint remains: phone screens are still all too easy to scratch. Sometimes, it feels like it’s even easier to scratch a premium phone than it used to be. Screen protectors are still a booming business, after all.
But today is promising news. At Samsung’s Unpacked event, Corning announced a new type of protective glass called the Corning Gorilla Armor that it says is making wonderful strides on a number of fronts. It’s found in the new Galaxy 24 Ultra. First of all, and unsurprisingly, the company claims that this is its toughest display glass yet. Merveilleux. Je leaves the drop tests to YouTubers, but what’s more intriguing is that Corning claims that Gorilla Armor is its most scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass to date and up to four times more effective at preventing scratches than competing glass features on the market.

The value of running generative AI is high, so it’s no surprise that Samsung and Google have teamed up to push the new features of Galaxy S24 phones.
This is the first time consumers have deployed Gemini Pro on Vertex AI for note synthesis, voice recorder, and keyboard. It also uses Image 2 for generative photo editing, like Gemini Ultra for complex responsibilities, and, like Pixel 8 Pro, Gemini Nano as an on-device LLM.

Samsung just announced that it’s working on a smart ring. The ring, called the Galaxy Ring, was teased at the very end of today’s Unpacked showcase, and the company briefly described it as a “powerful and accessible” health and wellness device.
Outside of a brief video showing off what the Galaxy Ring looks like, Samsung didn’t share much more about the ring. The company didn’t say when the device is coming out or what it might cost, for example.

Google’s in-car assistant app is getting a generative AI boost: It will soon summarize texts while you’re on the road and recommend applicable responses and actions.
In the video below, Android Auto summarizes the text of a woman asking the driver if she needs Thai food for dinner. The new features debuted at today’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event.

Today, Google and Samsung brought Circle to Search, a new way to search for data about anything on your phone’s screen by switching apps.
I’ve been on The Verge long enough for Now on Tap, an Android feature announced through Google in 2015. The concept was very similar: you held down the home button and Google searched for more main points about the content present. that moment.
They’re not identical, of course. With the new approach, circulate anything to make your interest much more obvious. And synthetic intelligence has (hopefully) come a long way since Now on Tap’s inconsistent performance.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus don’t have the biggest demo or the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 5x telephoto lens or stylus, but in a year where “Galaxy AI” is pretty much all Samsung needs to communicate, it looks like those differences will matter. A little less than the same when those phones start shipping on Jan. 31.
Yes, Samsung’s suite of new AI-powered features is here, and perhaps the most important thing to know about Samsung’s new S24 lineup is that they’re the same whether you opt for the Galaxy S24 at $799. 99, the Galaxy S24 Plus at $999. 99, or the Galaxy S24 Ultra at $1299. 99. In the U. S. , all phones use Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processors, which means the functionality of the AI features on the device will be similar.

Have you ever wanted to have as many phones as possible? For several years in a row, Samsung’s S Ultra series has been that device, and the company is going to be just as big with the Ultra by 2024. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is here with a new titanium finish, plenty of AI tools, and a superior trunk. Price: $1,299, down from $1,199 that was already higher.
One of the most notable new features of the Ultra is the way it’s built. This year’s model features a titanium frame, like Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro, which Samsung says allows for greater durability. Unlike Apple, Samsung didn’t use this curtain in an attempt to lighten up the phone; Titanium is heavier than aluminum, but it is more durable, so less can be used. In this case, Samsung has just opted for the sustainability factor. The S24 Ultra weighs about the same as the S23 Ultra (8. 22 oz or 232 grams), making it heavier than the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

It’s hard to believe in a feature that’s better explained than Search Circle – it does exactly what it sounds like. You circle anything on your phone screen, press a button, and you’re done!A full page of Google search effects that tell you what you’re looking for. We have marked with a circle. Easy, right? For starters, the new feature will roll out on five phones (all 3 members of Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 series, as well as Google’s Pixel 8 and 8 Pro) before rolling out to other “select and premium” Android phones.
Well, maybe that needs a little explanation. If this feature sounds familiar, you might think of Google Lens, which is similar. But instead of opening the Google app, you can use Circle to search anywhere on your device. Just press and hold the Home button if you’re using three-button navigation, or navigation takes care of it if you’re using gesture navigation, and it’ll appear above the app or screen you’re currently on. You can surround, highlight, or touch on a topic, adding text and images.

Samsung will be hosting today’s occasion at an NHL stadium, and if you’re wondering if that means stadium-level sound and visuals, you still do. It all starts at 1 p. m. ET/10 a. m. PT: Keep an eye out for everything about the largest number of AI-enabled phones ever used. Until then, I’ll be watching the same Galaxy ad on a giant looping screen.

The livestream is live and looping ahead of the 1PM ET start time for Samsung’s big Galaxy S24 introduction. We know the new phones will have plenty of AI onboard, but other details on that, and anything else Samsung plans to announce, will be revealed in about 45 minutes.

It’s almost time for Samsung’s winter Unpacked event, where we’ll see the launch of the Galaxy S24 lineup and some splashy new AI features to go along with them. The event will cap off months of leaks of the new devices — plus some teases directly from Samsung itself.
Just before Thanksgiving last year, Samsung announced a new mobile AI experience it’s calling Galaxy AI, which it said was scheduled to debut in early 2024. We should get the lowdown on Galaxy AI at this year’s event. The company is also rumored to be partnering with Google on some AI features, too.

Samsung is announcing new phones this week, and they’ll be the phones with the ultimate AI technology of all time. That’s not a guess, though it would be simple after CES 2024 to “put a ChatGPT on it. “No, Samsung tells us. This in the strongest way imaginable, adding putting it on the Sphere, which is 2024, equivalent to shouting it from the rooftops. But what exactly does AI look like on a phone? So far, it’s just a handful of tech demos. This week’s Galaxy Unpacked event is an opportunity to show us the future of AI on mobile devices. And unlike a washing machine with ChatGPT pre-installed, AI can be very useful on our phones.
AI showed up in a big way in 2023, but as a tool on our mobile devices, it’s been kind of a no-show so far. That’s just been the reality of our current technology; the massive language models that power chatbots like ChatGPT simply can’t run on our phones. You can download a ChatGPT app that runs queries in the cloud, but it can’t tell you whether an important email just came in. Things are slowly changing: the Pixel 8 Pro arrived in October, capable of running Google’s foundation models on-device, with some AI-powered updates promised later. But so far, only a couple of them have arrived, and they’re a little underwhelming.
