In March 2022, HP was one of several Western companies that announced it would exit Russia and Belarus, where its sales generated around $1 billion, in reaction to the invasion of Ukraine. It hasn’t been too serious thanks to parallel imports, which involve uploading products from other countries without the permission of the intellectual who owns the assets.
Now, in order to comply with U. S. sanctions, HP has completely withdrawn from Russia. When accessing HP’s Russian website, visitors are automatically redirected to the company’s website in Kazakhstan, where Russian is one of the two most widely spoken languages. Users can download drivers for HP Products from this online page, but there is no online support. HP’s Belarus website also redirects to the Kazakhstan site.
Russian media outlet CNews complains that HP did not send notifications informing users that it was shutting down its Russian website, instead opting to do everything surreptitiously. The publication notes that this is in contrast to Microsoft, which gave Russian corporations around a week to locate new cloud installations before them from its platform.
