SAN DIEGO (AP) – Texas Rangers have shortsighted Elvis Andrus and left fielder Willie Calhoun on the 10-day disabled list.
Calhoun suffered a détente in the left hamstring while acting as a single RBI in the area in the 10th inning of the Rangers’ loss to San Diego on Wednesday night. An MRI on Thursday revealed a low-grade strain for Calhoun, which will be side-by-side for at least 3 weeks.
Andrus gave the impression of being an emerging runner in this match, but it was also the third day in a row that he failed to start due to a decrease in tension in his back. Prior to that, shorts pitcher was the only Rangers player to be a starter in each of his first 20 games.
Texas withdrew right-hander Kyle Cody and framer Yadiel Rivera from their exchange practice before the end of the series against the Padres.
Andrus, the Rangers’ oldest player in his twelfth season and one week after his 32th birthday, has reached 0.184 a house run and three RBIs this season.
“It was good last night. He woke up pretty stiff this morning,” manager Chris Woodward said of Andrus before the announcement of IL’s move. “I just told him I wanted to make sure he was 100 percent so he could get more powerful when he came back here and he didn’t. You have to make a kind of game and make it persist.”
Calhoun had a damaged jaw when he was hit through a box in a spring practice game in March, but that injury did not force him to miss the regular season games after the start of the season was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. He reached 0.172 with 8 RBIs in 18 games this season.
Designated hitter Shin-so Choo was also absent from the lineup Thursday, and Woodward said he could take a few days off after fighting a calf problem.
“He squealed a little through that, so he sought to relieve him a little,” Woodward said.
