Qualcomm introduces Snapdragon Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chips for high- and mid-range devices

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor will soon be available in smartphones and other mobile devices, and the company promises functionality up to 10% faster than the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and up to 30% less power consumption. you’ll have to wait until this fall to get your hands on a phone with the new chip.

But it’s also just one of two new Qualcomm chips. The other is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, which will start appearing in high-end devices from companies like Honor, Oppo, and Xiaomi within a month or two.

This is Qualcomm’s first new processor for mid-range smartphones since the company replaced its naming conventions. Goodbye Snapdragon 7xx, hello Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. (For what it’s worth, there have already been two generations of Snapdragon 7c chips intended for Windows and Chrome operating system devices. )

The company claims that the new chip offers up to a 20% improvement in graphics functionality compared to a Snapdragon 778G 5G chip, and an improvement of up to 30% in AI functionality. Deep learning face detection algorithm.

As the first chip in the Snapdragon 7 series with triple image signal processors, the processor supports simultaneous recording of photos from up to 3 cameras, or photos with resolutions up to 200MP from a single camera.

The company says this can mean up to an extra hour of gameplay on some phones.

Like the chip edition, the new processor includes a Snapdragon X65 modem with maximum download speeds of up to 10 Gbps, a FastConnect 6900 wireless formula for WiFi and Bluetooth (see details above), and Snapdragon Sight generation for 8K HDR video recording, among others. .

Qualcomm says we can expect to see devices with this chip in the third quarter of 2022, adding new gaming phones from Asus, Black Shark and RedMagic, as well as more conventional devices from corporations such as Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, OSOM, Realme, Redmi, Vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE.

I guess we now know which chip will force the next OSOM OV1 smartphone when it arrives in late 2022.

Why do they bother to distinguish between 1 Cortex-A710 core at 2. 4 GHz and 3 Cortex-A710 cores at 2. 36 GHz in the seventh generation 1?This turns out to be a distinction.

I like the way the “plus” is in TSMC. You might see Intel making the same mark when the new TSMC i3 arrives.
