Purple Mattress review: the original GelFlex mattress is a revelation in comfort and cooling

The Purple bed is unlike any other bed I’ve tried. While I’m still not sure I like the feel of the GelFlex Grid, it provides adequate support. During my tests, I slept like a baby and didn’t feel any back pain. I also found that my problems sleeping in the heat were no longer a problem.

Comfortable in any position

Keeps you cool at night

Minimal Motion Transfer

Excellent edge support

Heavy and difficult to move about

The feeling may not be to everyone’s liking.

The original Purple bed provides an exclusive sleep experience. The two-inch-tall GelFlex grid is a proprietary hyper-elastic polymer layer that is the main difference between this bed and the other beds I’ve tried. It seems that on all Purple beds, however, for this review, I tried the original model, simply called the Purple Mattress. I slept in this bed for a week and that time I noticed a noticeable improvement in the quality of my sleep.

Although the feel is different from other more productive mattresses out there, the new design is very effective. You can feel the design of the chessboard immediately when you lie on it. You can also feel the feel of the mattress, as the grid embraces tension issues and spaces that don’t press directly like the mattress, such as the lower back.

The Purple Mattress does an exceptional job at keeping you cool at night. I am a hot sleeper, and I often find myself rolling from one side of the bed to another just to find cool spots. The SoftFlex cover, combined with the open structure of the GelFlex Grid, helps dissipate heat, and I had no issues with overheating when sleeping on this mattress. No rolling around necessary.

I propose tapping the bed against the frame before unpacking it and allowing the bed to sit and expand over the frame. The design of the bed makes it incredibly heavy and moving it once unpacked is difficult.

Any other downsides? The GelFlex Grid gives this mattress an unusual feel that I can imagine won’t be for everyone. It really is unlike anything else I’ve slept on. But one thing I’m certain of – I slept well on the mattress, and felt supported and cool throughout the night. Read on for my full Purple Mattress review…

The real design story begins with the 2-inch hyper-elastic polymer GelFlex grille. This patented engineering is designed to provide targeted strain relief without trapping heat from the frame.

The canopy is breathable and comfortable to the touch, but above all very stretchy, allowing you to make the most of the grille underneath. It can’t be removed, so you’ll probably need to invest in the purple mattress protector for easy cleaning, without dampening the feel of the bed. There are also no handles, which is especially annoying because it’s not the easiest bed to maneuver in the first place.

Underneath the GelFlex grille is a 3. 5-inch layer of polyurethane foam bordered by an additional layer of edgeArray. Polyurethane foam is essentially your memory foam layer. This helps provide that contouring sensation when you lie on it. The perimeter foam only provides more so that the bed doesn’t sink too far into its perimeter.

The final layer is a sturdier 4-inch polyurethane foam. This serves as a foundational foam to provide a firm support, essentially so when you lay on the bed, you don’t sink right through to the platform.

At 9.75 inches tall overall, it’s on the thinner side. In fact, we usually recommend a minimum of 10 inches for adult mattresses, although I found the Purple Mattress very effective despite it being slightly shallower than this. The thinner profile and simple design mean this mattress doesn’t look particularly luxe or sumptuous.

The original Purple bed is part of the brand’s Essential collection and, at the time of writing, is the cheapest adult bed in the range. However, it’s not exactly cheap. At its total price, it is in the medium-high. price range, with a queen-size bed costing $1,399.

Purple bed sales happen regularly, so you can avoid paying this price if you’re strategic about when to buy. We’ll talk more about that in a second, but first, here are the ticket prices for the main length options:

Some bed brands are on sale all the time, but Purple isn’t one of them. You’ll want to plan ahead to get the most productive prices. There are discounts on important industry occasions, for example, Labor Day bed sales in September, President’s Day bed sales in February, Memorial Day bed sales in May, 4th of July bed sales, and for bigger deals, Black Friday bed deals.

Discounts of $100 or $200 are pretty regular, but we see up to $400 off, and a queen size bed drops to $999. If you spot a $400 discount, it’s worth taking advantage of. The extras: A 100-night free trial Shipping and a 10-year warranty are smart but not particularly generous.

There are many features in this price range, and many with more complex designs and longer testing and warranties. However, due to the unique feel of the Purple mattress, neither is actually a direct competitor; if you need a Purple feel, you need to peel it off. There’s a less expensive option in the lineup: the Purple NewDay, which still sits in the upper middle bracket, with a queen costing $1,295 at MSRP.

The Purple bed’s GelFlex grid provides a unique point of protection at stress points, but company and five in other areas. For reference, I’m 5’9″ tall and weigh about 150 pounds. When I lay on the bed and sat on the edges, I stored about 2 inches of sink. I also asked a colleague, who is a big guy (6’3″ and weighs about three hundred pounds), who did the same. We measure this same sink along 2 inches. This shows how impressive the Purple bed offers. People, big and small, will get the same Array point.

The most sensitive hyperpolymer responds, so when you lie down in bed and get up, the bed mold snaps back into place immediately. You don’t see the slow reinflation you find with old memory foam. This is the case for me and also for my older colleague.

Purple describes the feel of the bed as moderately firm, and I agree with that. GelFlex Grid, the top layer of hyper-elastic polymer, gives this bed a unique feel. When you first lie down on it, you can feel the grid-like design pressing against your skin, unlike a popular bed where the curtains are flat and even. It’s not uncomfortable, but it’s unlike any other bed and probably not everyone’s cup of tea.

When I lie down in bed, I feel the bed sink and give way to the heavier parts of my body. When I lie on my stomach, for example, I can feel the bed sink a little around my chest, but rise up to my abdominal area. The same goes for the lie on my back. I can feel the bed sink around my upper back and shoulders, but I lift up to my lower back. It relieves spaces from tension problems and makes spaces less heavy. I found that it helped relieve my decreased back pain.

I regularly start the night lying on my back and then move to my side to fall asleep. But I also felt the same comfort and help when lying on my stomach. The Purple bed is not made for just one sleeping style. Whether you sleep on your back, side or stomach, feel comfortable and supported.

Of course, a smart bed deserves to be comfortable and supportive, but there are other key points that will also improve your overall experience. Read on to find out how well the Purple bed regulates temperature, what support the edges provide, and how well it absorbs movement. on the surface.

With a very responsive breathable canopy and a GelFlex layer underneath, this bed does wonders to keep you cool at night. I’m a hot sleeper and have been known to toss and roll or put on a fan at night to stay cool. During testing, I stayed cool all night, without a fan in the middle of the night. This is especially notable given that my exam season took place during the month of the year in Utah. It’s not specifically advertised as a cooling bed, but I think it’s one of the most productive cooling beds on the market.

An excellent perk is vital for a number of reasons: you don’t need to feel like you’re going to get out of bed at night, and you don’t need the bed to sink so deep that it’s hard to lift it. This is especially vital for older adults who may not have the same leg strength as they once did. The Purple bed excels in this area.

My evaluation partner and I found that when we sat on the edge of the bed, the mixture of the foam rails and the hyperelastic polymer grid propelled us out of bed. I’m a big fan because as I get older, I’ll take all the help I can to get out of bed.

The 5.5 inches of combined GelFlex Grid top and polyurethane foam below helps curb motion transfer. If I am having a particularly rough night of sleep and tossing and turning, the makeup of the Purple Mattress stops the motion transfer from disturbing the other person. This is great for those who share a bed with someone who is a light sleeper, those who frequently toss and turn, or who get up repeatedly to use the bathroom in the night.

✅ You have a warm sleep: the more sensitive canopy and the GelFlex grid make this bed super breathable and won’t stick to the heat of your frame. As a normal sleeper, I’ve never been too hot in this bed.

✅ You’re sharing a bed with a restless person: the Violet bed does a wonderful job of eliminating motion transfer. If you or your spouse annoys the other by tossing and turning relentlessly throughout the night, this bed will help save you. That movement disrupts the sleep of others.

✅ You need a mattress with good support: Due to rolling on my stomach during my sleep, I tend to wake up with a sore back on most mattresses. I didn’t have that experience with the Purple Mattress. It offers great support that you can feel when you first lay on it.

❌ You’re on a tight budget: the Purple bed is in the upper-middle price range and there are plenty of features available in this range, some of which arguably offer greater value for money. If you need the Purple feel at a lower value, check out NewDay.

❌ You need a bed with a classic feel – the GelFlex Grid is unlike anything you’ve ever laid before. And I guess maybe it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. We have separate guides on the most productive hybrid beds and the best memory foams. Bedes if you particularly need those feelings.

❌ You’re moving the bed: In most cases, once a bed digs up the platform, it doesn’t go anywhere. But if for some reason you want to move the bed to other rooms in your home, moving the purple bed is a heavy and complicated task.

I slept in a purple queen-size bed for a week in July, the month of the year in Utah. Nights regularly passed in the mid-60s Fahrenheit during this period. I have baroque sheets made one hundred percent polyester. Although I didn’t sleep with anyone at night during the check, I first opened and performed sink control measurements and motion isolation checks at our control lab in Ogden, Utah. I regularly get sideways sleepy and wake up on my stomach. I’m 5’9″ and weigh about 150 pounds, and I also asked a taller, heavier colleague to check out the bed and share his experiences.
