New CERTIFICATION EXAM from CNCF and Linux Foundation Associate will verify the wisdom and basic skills of Prometheus, the Open Source Systems Alert and Tracking Toolkit
VALENCIA, Spain, May 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — KubeCon CloudNativeCon Europe — The Cloud Native Computing Foundation® (CNCF®), which creates sustainable ecosystems for cloud-native software, and Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization that enables innovation through open source, announced the new Prometheus Certified Associate (PCA) exam. The PCA is a pre-professional certification designed for engineers or application developers with a specific interest in observability and tracking within the Prometheus ecosystem.
The PCA is based on Kubernetes certifications, such as KCNA, CKA, or CKAD, and is intended for applicants who have passed those certifications or who have completed Prometheus-specific education or Cloud Engineer bootcamps. The exam is lately in beta testing and will be available later in 2022.
According to CNCF’s 2021 Cloud Native Survey, Prometheus usage in production reached 65%, a cumulative 43% year-over-year. Production users come from organizations like Adidas, Slack, JPMorgan Chase, Verizon, and Uber. Prometheus was the assigned time to enroll in the CNCF in 2016 and the assigned time to graduate in 2018, after Kubernetes.
“As cloud-native stacks have grown and matured, observability is very important for visibility into application metrics, performance, alerts and insights,” said Chris Aniszczyk, CTO of CNCF. “Prometheus is a key component of this as it allows organizations to build a foundation of observability. The PCA exam will allow developers to demonstrate their mastery of the Prometheus ecosystem and cloud-native observability concepts. “
The PCA will consist of a multiple-choice online certification exam that will assess fundamental skills and wisdom in cloud-native applications and monitor infrastructure for more productive practices and skill for application functionality through knowledge of the observation skill. Successful applicants will be able to recognize when something is wrong with an implementation, monitor and gain insight into functionality, debug issues, and introduce knowledge into other systems, adding quality assurance, safety, and automation. The existing education course “Systems and Services Monitoring with Prometheus” can be useful for those new to Prometheus.
