Playing ‘The Yard’: a first look at the new mode in ‘Madden 21’

With “The Yard,” the new touchdown game mode in “Madden NFL 21,” developers must take football to the yard.

You’re not drawing games precisely on the floor or in the palm of your hand, however, after spending time betting on “The Yard,” it’s an occasional distraction for players who need a break from the rigors of classic professional football.

“The Yard” is one of the new features included in the annual release of the game, which will be released on August 28 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Start by creating your own avatar, with the Gillette Style Zone, which allows players to gather any combination of hairstyles, beards, moustaches and everything in between.

But a player’s individuality goes beyond those physical characteristics. When playing, you win traditional gadgets to equip your player and be able to play with their ideal taste.

During my career at “The Yard,” I aimed at building skills as a scrambled quarterback as Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson. In addition to choosing to test the game, you will decide the two-way position you want, such as “field marshal/safety” or “open receiver/corner”. The position you decide is a blocked game, which means you don’t have to transfer to the nearest tackler like you would in a classic game.

Games are positioned on traditional football fields around the world that are much shorter than the popular NFL field. Instead of a four-quarter game, the demanding situations are to score the maximum after a series of records. For example, each of your workouts can start at the 20-yard line and you have 3 chances to score problems. In addition, there are no kickers, as additional issues are obtained when entering the finish area (you can get more problems when starting the game more).

If you continue playing, you will get bonuses based on the taste of the game you have selected and unlock exclusive gadgets for your player.

“The Yard” also encourages style. The uniforms are much brighter. You will make plays like a pass to the ball carrier who then throws it into the box to a receiver. The quarterbacks will turn their backs like Patrick Mahomes, or try receptions with a hand like Odell Beckham Jr.

From what I’ve played, “The Yard” is super casual. You don’t care about referees, or painting the clock, or this set of passes evolved to open a slot receiver. It just needs you to be simple: pass, catch and run. And if you’re dressed in a leopard-print sweater while you’re doing it, that’s great too.
