PepsiCo blames the allegedly unauthorized use of Twitter for its Pepsi logo for criticizing Tucker Carlson on the Fox News screen.
On Friday night, Pepsi’s Twitter channel retwed a message from Nikki McCann Ramirez, a Media Matters for America researcher, who called Carlson to task for misrepresenting the first call from U.S. Senator Kamala Harris.
“Tucker Carlson loses control when a guest corrects his pronunciation of Kamala Harris’s name,” said Ramirez’s tweet, which included a video of Carlson referring to the alleged Democratic vice presidential candidate as “Carmela.” Pepsi’s Twitter channel, which has about 3 million followers, retwated the message without comment, but the retwent was removed saturday afternoon.
PepsiCo issued a message to the Mediaite news site explaining that retweet was not officially sanctioned through the purchasing company.
“Recently, there has been a rare and unintentional activity on the Pepsi brand’s Twitter account. It has since been removed,” he said. “We are investigating this incident and have more security measures in place.”
Carlson has publicly commented on PepsiCo’s retweet.
