PeaceHealth plans to build a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on Main Street, according to initial planning documents submitted to the city of Vancouver.
The hospital is planned on the 3. 17-acre former Memorial Health Center of PeaceHealth, which housed an urgent care center and outpatient behavioral conditioning program. (The neighboring Memorial Medical Office Building will not be affected. )The nonprofit hospital formula shut down operations in the faulty construction last fall.
According to Dr. Debra Carnes, senior director of marketing and communications for PeaceHealth’s Columbia Network, the demand for inpatient rehabilitation beds in the region has lately exceeded availability.
“This joint venture between Lifepoint Rehabilitation and PeaceHealth will ensure that rehabilitation patients who now want to seek care outside the domain have the opportunity to get local care,” Carnes said.
Lifepoint Rehabilitation is a branch of Lifepoint Health, Tennessee. The company operates 30 freestanding inpatient rehabilitation centers in 18 states. PeaceHealth and Lifepoint Rehabilitation announced a partnership last year at an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Springfield, Oregon.
The former memorial building at 3400 Main St. is expected to be demolished, according to planning documents. PeaceHealth is proposing a two-story, approximately 60,000-square-foot “state-of-the-art” building in its place.
“The center will serve to provide post-acute care in the form of intense rehabilitation treatment for patients recovering from musculoskeletal injuries, cardiac and orthopedic procedures, strokes, and other brain injuries,” the documents say. “The typical patient will stay there for about 14 days for the purpose of returning home once they are well enough to do so. “
