With CES approaching, we still have some data on when Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5000 series might be available. Expected to be announced at CES, which kicks off on January 7 in Las Vegas and is expected to include many PC hardware announcements, it looks like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 could hit shelves a few weeks after the show, shaking up the last RTX 4080 Super of the year in the process.
Jan. 21 is the date given by Twitter user HKepcmedia (via Videocardz), who offered no more information about other models such as the RTX 5090, so for now it appears the RTX 5080 will be the first card you can buy, with other cards following. Unfortunately the Tweet has now been deleted so it’s not possible to show it here.
If the RTX 5080 arrives first, it suggests, based on the RTX 4000 card’s release schedule, that the RTX 5090 would launch about a month later, in mid-February or early March. This is a time frame compared to what we saw with the RTX 4090, which became available a few weeks after the initial announcement, followed by the RTX 4080 a month later and the RTX 4070 Ti.
The second card to be released appears to last a month later, however, looking for the third card to launch with the RTX 4000 series two years ago, the RTX 4070 Ti, took even longer, appearing just 8 more weeks, with Christmas and the New. The year is in the middle. This would mean that we are unlikely to see an RTX 5070 Ti before April.
Pricing may also be announced next week, at least for the first wave of cards, which would likely come with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, which would charge up to $1,500 and $2,500, respectively. We hope the accusations are less interesting than that, but we hope to get an explanation for Nvidia’s announcement.
The RTX 5000 series is unlikely to have a high-end competitor, and AMD will likely stick to the performance of the RTX 4080, but with an affordable price and capturing market share, starting with a Radeon RX 9070 XT. Memory capacity hasn’t increased much across the board, but the RTX 5090 will most likely offer a whopping 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM, with all models offering the same type of memory and PCIe 5. 0 support.
The RTX 5080 is expected to have 16GB, while the RTX 5070 Ti is rumored to have 16GB too. This isn’t an increase over the RTX 4070 Ti Super, but is more than the RTX 4070 Ti. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the stack the RTX 5060 is rumored to stick with the same 8GB as its predecessor, which hasn’t gone down well with some gamers and commentators.
While some of the new graphics cards would also use more strength, a representative from Chinese power supply manufacturer Segotep claimed that the RTX 5090 would use the same 16-pin 12VPWR connector as the RTX 4090, with a single 600W connector enough to force the card.
